LOST: The Spoiler Edition - Marc - 04-25-2008 Because of the confusion with the spoiler tag in Magger's original "LOST the 4th season" thread I thought it might simplify things to create a specific thread dedicated to the discussion of LOST that consist of spoilers. This way no one has to block out conversations. So be warned: discussions in this thread MAY contain spoilers regarding LOST. Read at your own risk. LOST: The Spoiler Edition - Marc - 04-25-2008 So things I was really surprised by this episode: - Ben can control the smoke monster - Ben knows Hurley saw the cabin and can find it - three fairly major characters were killed in the span of two episodes New question: How did Ben end up in the middle of the desert and why was he wearing a winter coat? Anyone else notice the wisps of smoke coming off of him? And Ben confronting Witmore at the hotel? What a badass. LOST: The Spoiler Edition - jimbow8 - 04-25-2008 Marc B. I didn't notice the "smoke" myself on first viewing, but I read elsewhere: both the parka and the "smoke" may be indicative of being transported (teleported?) from a VERY cold environment instantaneously. I thought the same thing. Remember a team finding a polar bear at the same site (I think) in an earlier episode/flash-back. A polar bear's remains were found in Tunisia in the first episode of this season as an introduction to Charlotte. Incidentally, if my estimation is correct, Tunisia is on the EXACT opposite side of the earth as a point South and East of Fiji. (Using the Coordinates 34ºN, 9ºE for Tunisia --> 34ºS, 171ºW , precisely along what looks like an underwater mountain range - perfect for unknown islands) LOST: The Spoiler Edition - fpw - 04-25-2008 Okay. My Tivo somehow lost my season pass for "Lost" so I just wached the 4/24 episode on ABC.com and can only say, OMFG. LOST: The Spoiler Edition - fpw - 04-25-2008 One of the biggest surprises was Ben's physical prowess. He's always played the dweeb who uses manipulation rather than force, but the way he took those two Islamics down - wow. Ben has quite a talent for sizing up and exploiting opponents' weaknesses both mentally and physically. LOST: The Spoiler Edition - Maggers - 04-25-2008 However the polar bear wound up in the desert is the way that Ben got there. Did he have to go from the Island to a cold place and from there to the desert, or is the passage from the Island to the desert so cold that winter gear is required for safety, well, I'll guess we'll find out. I was fascinated by the door to the place, whatever it is, where Ben called/communicated with the smoke monster. As I said in the other thread, the door looked very old and covered in runes, or cuniforms, or writing that looked ancient. Plus Ben came back from there covered with filth. His face and hands were really dirty. That's quite a hidey hole little Ben built for himself. Ben noticed that Hurley was aware of the cabin in that episode where Locke's group is trekking from the beach to the cabins, when Ben was still a prisoner. Watch Ben's face throughout an episode, any episode, and it's very telling. Loved, loved, loved, that magnificent, angry, vengeful smoke monster. Poor Sayid. He looses his love; he finds her in prison; he pretends to torture his love; he helps her escape; he searches for her for 8 years; he finally finds her again; he marries her; she dies. That boy don't get no break. And nasty Ben uses all of that sorry history to trick Sayid into becoming his personal assassin. Finally, as I said on the other thread, will the story come down to a contest between Ben and Desmond? If one loves and protects Penny and the other is sworn to kill her, that's a fabulous set up. There's more to Desmond than we know. LOST: The Spoiler Edition - Maggers - 04-25-2008 fpw Wrote:One of the biggest surprises was Ben's physical prowess. If he were in the real world, he would still be recuperating from cancer and a wicked spinal operation. He bounced back from all that quite nicely. |
