Black Wind: GU Link: Night world: Tiny Spoilers - Alan - 06-22-2006 I am taking the bus to work now and have a little extra time to read. I just finished rereading SIMS yesterday (even better the second time) and decided to reread Black Wind. I came across this early on today: S P O I L E R On page 22 Matsuo talks about a blade forged from the metal of a sword given to the swordmaker by a wandering gaijin centuries ago. Was this a third sword owned by Glaeken or was this some other gaijin with a magical sword. Was this something planned for Nightworld but abandoned? Just curious. **********Containing Harbingers spoiler********** I checked about that sword. In Japanese edition, it's on page 54. Glaeken = gaijin has pretty big possibility. Now I'm reading Harbingers, and on page 112, Oculus mentioned May third 1941 and Pearl Harbor. So I guessed Black Wind was raised by Otherness. Am I right? And with the quotes in Harbingers it seems it could be worming its way in. Good spot on the swords, I mentioned something similar a fews years back. With the rewrite of Nightworld I can but dream a 'third' sword is mentioned Dave Black Wind: GU Link: Night world: Tiny Spoilers - BrettM - 06-23-2006 Dave Wrote:/***** Spoilers as above *****//***** Repeat of spoilers ****/ Why postulate a third sword when two will do? Suppose the hilt of the second sword had been lost (or stolen, perhaps as some plot of Rasalom's), and Glaeken simply dropped off the now-useless blade in Japan. Maybe the hilt was even lost/stolen in S.E. Asia at the time the Dat Tay Vao was released, and went to India, where it was forged into the necklaces. Maybe R arranged to have it stolen at the time the Rakoshi were made, knowing it could protect the keepers from their charges. Two pieces of the sword, both ending up within spitting distance of S.E. Asia in opposite directions, with the DTV left in-between. Let's dream big and pretend that all of this will be explained in the Keep Prequel! Brett Black Wind: GU Link: Night world: Tiny Spoilers - cobalt - 06-23-2006 I always wondered whether Jack's father had an episode with the Otherness during his war years. Maybe he called it something else. Any ideas? We know it only takes a small piece to forge a new one. Know suppose a small piece had been discovered, but instead of the "little folk" (the ones that knew how to remake the sword for Glaeken) getting this material and forging the sword, it was an old Japanese sword maker. He could have folded the sword two thousand times and tempered it, not knowing the true power the material held, but knowing when he was done, that it was speciel. He probably would have used humans to cool the blade after forging it (the human body temperature is perfect for that). Then the blade could never be sheathed after it had been drawn unless it had drawn blood.
