Repairman Punisher? - jaybird - 01-04-2006 I recently got around to watching The Punisher. I thought it was a GREAT movie. I liked it so much I started on the comic series. While watching this movie I noticed that The Punisher Handled himself and his problems alot like Jack does.(Except for the bloodbathing) I wonder if FPW was or is a Punisher fan. Repairman Punisher? - mike36799 - 01-05-2006 I liked Punisher growning up in comics. The connection is there, but I see Jack as a more sophisticated assasin. If you read the comics, a lot of the times Punisher is actually the villian, and is one reaking havoc on everyone he knows. In the movie, he is more a family man. This character persona is more simliar to RJ, and I can see your point. Punisher is a very dark gloomy character though, I seem to have more of a bright side to Jack despite his sometimes violent nature. It is the relationship he shares with Vicky, Gia, and Abe that really differs him as a hero. I take Punisher of a more kill everything that moves, and Jack a more relaxed, and vulnerable hero. Always seemed like the a Mack Bolan / Executioner rip off -- looking ridiculous in spandex. Repairman Punisher? - jaybird - 01-05-2006 mike36799 Wrote:I liked Punisher growning up in comics. I see your point as well. The Punisher is a bit more high profile than jack but, there are still parallels between them. Yes. I also agree that Punisher is much more withdrawn and darker than jack. I just could'nt pass up on noticing the similarities. Repairman Punisher? - jaybird - 01-05-2006 fpw Wrote:I've read a few issues over the years. Never could get into the character. The text that flows from your mind to the paper is always rewarding to read in itself. Repairman Punisher? - peachynat - 01-05-2006 I haven't read the comics (yet), but I did see the movie and did notice some similarities between him and Jack. Guess I'll have more of an idea of what kind of person he truly is once I read the comics. Repairman Punisher? - Charleswg - 01-05-2006 well, for comparisons, yeah- Jack and the Punisher share things. But, an analogy I like is Jack is to Spiderman as The Punisher is to Wolverine. Same side (usually), different approach. Anyway- FPW will probably kill me now that I compared Jack to a guy running around NYC in red tights. Parker, a character in novels written by Richard Stark. I read the Parker novels after Repairman Jack, and thought he was very similar to RJ, accept Parker doesn't have a conscience. The movie "Payback" with Mel Gibson was based on "The Hunter" by Richard Stark. Most of his books are out of print, I found them at the library. I had to order some of them from other libraries, and that's when I found Nightworld, and the Touch. |
