The Pink Panther - t4terrific - 12-10-2005 http://www.fox.co.uk/trailers/the-pink-panther-10793/71/ This is one remake I'm excited about. It looks like a lot of laughs. Steve Martin is great! Nobody can defeat him. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to it. Looks hilarious. ![]() The Pink Panther - mike36799 - 12-10-2005 Kenji Wrote:Yes, Steve Martin is great, but I prefer Peter Sellers as Clouseau. Nobody can defeat him. The Pink Panther - jaybird - 12-10-2005 I know that I am one of the young crumb snatchers but, do any of you remember the Pink Panther Cartoons? They were one of my most loved corts. as a kid. My favorite movie was Curse of the Pink Panther. The Pink Panther - Blake - 12-10-2005 Kenji Wrote:Yes, Steve Martin is great, but I prefer Peter Sellers as Clouseau. Nobody can defeat him. I completely agree. I love Steve Martin, but I have to admit that I think this role is a misfire -- at least so far, since all I've seen are trailers. But there's just no way anyone can replace Peter Sellers. The man was a genius. I have to admit that the trailers aren't doing much for me. I really like Jean Reno, but having him in the Cato role just doesn't feel right. And as much as I love Kevin Kline, having him replace Herbert Lom brings up the same issue as having Martin replace Sellers: Really, how can you replace Herbert Lom??? He was hilarious and absolutely defined the role, especially in The Pink Panther Strikes Again. It also seems like this movie's release kept getting postponed, which doesn't seem like a good sign. I'd say I'm curious, but not optimistic. ![]() jaybird Wrote:I know that I am one of the young crumb snatchers but, do any of you remember the Pink Panther Cartoons? I still maintain that the "crash" (or "crunch"?) noise when someone falls and hits the floor in those cartoons is one of the funniest sound effects ever. jaybird Wrote:My favorite movie was Curse of the Pink Panther. Blasphemy! Isn't that the one without Peter Sellers?!? Blake The Pink Panther - fpw - 12-10-2005 "Daz yoor dahg baht?" The man was a genius. I agree, especially in the case of Lom who absolutely was one of the best foils of all time. I wish they would choose less-hallowed ground if they insist on making remakes. My favorite scene comes from Strikes Again where the "Pavlov of the parallels' dismounts onto the staircase and tumbles down into the roomful of the suspects gathered to interrogated. Then during the questioning he manages to get the hand with the mace attached from the suit of armor stuck on his hand. "That's a priceless Steinway!" "Not anymore." Priceless. The man was a genius.I agree with you. Sellers is the best in the role but, for some reason that one has stuck with me.BTW the sound F/X on the cartoons were the greatest. I still find them mildly entertaining (when I'm in the mood). The Pink Panther - Maggers - 12-10-2005 As brilliant as the actors were in the Pink Panther films, director Blake Edwards was the genius who made them work so very well. His sense of cinematic slapstick was perfection. Put Edwards together with Sellers and you couldn't miss. I'm not expecting much from Shawn Levy, director of the remake. His track record is not impressive..."Cheaper By the Dozen," "Just Married," "Big Fat Liar," among others. I agree with Blake about Jean Reno. He's miscast. Steve Martin is one of my all time favs. His "All of Me" is a classic and on my top 10 list. But fabulous as he can be, how can Martin redo Sellers as Closeau? |
