Domino - Kenji - 10-22-2005 If you saw "Man on Fire", you'll soon realize this is Tony Scott's film. Stylish visual, flamboyant gunshots scenes, violence, big blasts.....I LIKE IT! Keira Knightley's Domino Harvey was good. I couldn't believe she's same person in "The Pirates of the Caribbeans". Mickey Rourke, Christopher Walken, and special appearances, Tom Waits. They were cool! If you like "True Romance", stand up, and bring your money, go to theater! I assure this is not waste of your time and money. "My name is Domino Harvey. I am A Bounty Hunter." *Whistle*, this is cool! Domino - fpw - 10-22-2005 Afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you, Kenji -- big time. I had high hopes for this film but came away hating it. The characters are dumb as orcs, what pass for action scenes range from the ho-hum to the ridiculous -- defusing a gang showdown with a lap dance? Come on! -- and all that killing and amputating just so a little girl can have an operation? They spent $55M on this? Yes, it has a True Romance-like confrontation at the end, but completely lacking the wit, tension, and panache of the original. But what I hated most was the camera work. Tony Scott pulled some of this frenetic let's-do-it-because-we-can crap when he directed the adaptation of my "Menage a Trois" for Showtime's The Hunger. It's a way to distract you from what's not happening on the screen. But -- to paraphrase a famous book review -- if you like this sort of movie, then this is the movie for you. Maybe I'd be less harsh if I hadn't had such high hopes for it. Domino - Kenji - 10-22-2005 fpw Wrote:Afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you, Kenji -- big time. You hated this movie? Well........too bad. But maybe I am a minority. Today was opening day, but theater's seats were almost vacant. Does nobody care about this movie? Jim, did you see this movie? I heard you're Tony Scott fan. Domino - t4terrific - 10-22-2005 "He says I have pinash." "Pinache?" "Yeah, it means flamboyance." "I know what it means." "Oh really? I had to look it up." fpw Wrote:Afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you, Kenji -- big time. Domino - t4terrific - 10-22-2005 Kenji Wrote:You hated this movie? Well........too bad. Have you ever seen a movie that you did NOT like Kenji? You seem like the kind of person who always finds something to like in a movie. Domino - hford713 - 10-22-2005 Tony Scott - get over yourself. With each new release, his cinematic style gets more and more obnoxious. The critics widely panned Domino - with nearly all saying that its cinematography was migraine enducing. I agree - as the trailer itself was enough to get me searching for my bottle of extra strength Tylenol. (Plus Keira Knightly's face - and more disturbingly, her voice - drive me nuts (in a bad way).) My new best friend is Rottentomatoes.com... gives great snapshots of critiques by all major and minor "critics". Domino - Kenji - 10-22-2005 t4terrific Wrote:It's rated pretty low on the IMDB poll. Random Hearts Hollywood Homicide Steven Seagal's movies(except "Executive Decision") Bone Collector(I like novel, though) King Arthur Rocky IV & V Hudson Hawk ........etc Domino - t4terrific - 10-22-2005 Kenji Wrote:Of course I've ever seen the movies I don't like. I'm just kidding with you. You always seem have something good to say about every movie you discuss. That's not a bad thing. You get more enjoyment that way. To movies like a Pearl Harbor. Domino - man bites snake - 10-23-2005 that no one else does. I have a (secret) collection of 70's car movies that are really quite bad, but for some reason I enjoy them (self abuse?). I can appreciate a movie even if I don't like it. Maybe the overall quality isn't there but I don't believe that the entire crew set out to make a crappy film. But I won't ever sit thru The People Under The Stairs again, God that was a train wreck. And then Swept Away, which I couldn't finish due to the rising vomit in my throat. And any Brian Bosworth movie......wait a minute........I think I'm completely wrong. There are some atrocious films out there and I must have closed my mind to forget just how bad some really are. What about Ode to Billie Joe or Milk Money? Okay, now I have to go and find that vomit bag. |
