New Hollywood movie, "SAYURI". This old Japan was made in Hollywood, and it has worth to see. But I'm wondering about one thing. All Japanese are speaking English in this movie. At least, in "The Last Samurai", they were speaking Japanese, not all scenes though. What do you think about Japanese casts speaking English in Japan described by Hollywood movie? Strange? Make a sense?

Ah! English title is "Memoirs of a Geisha"? That's good title. It's better than "Sayuri".

Isn't Sayuri the titular character? That would have been a decent title. She was supposedly Japans most popular Geisha, yes?

I may be wrong (wouldn't be the first time), but are there any english speaking characters in the film? If it is a common language throughout the film then it makes some sense to have them speak the language of the intended audience. A bit like Star Wars using english when we all know in a galaxy far, far away they would have formed their own language
The Last Samurai was the story of an english speaking soldier who experienced the reality of Japan, so the language difference became as much a part of the story as the samurai code.

I saw the trailer. Everybody's speaking in English.

That's good example. That makes sense.
Anyway, I'm really glad to know people in America(England) are interested in Japanese cultures. Movie itself looks good to me. I hope their works succeed.

I will most likely see it, partially due to my penchant for Japanese women (yummy). But also because it looks like a beautifully shot film. It will be good to see a beautiful Japanese film that does not involve martial arts for a change.
