Best Television Ensemble Casts - Maggers - 07-21-2005

Sparked by a burgeoning discussion on the "Scotty has beamed up" thread, I thought I'd ask what do you consider to be the best television ensemble casts.

Here's my list, in no particular order:

The Mary Tyler Moore Show
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Friends
Frazier
Law & Order with Jerry Orbach
Star Trek

I'm sure there are more.

Twin Peaks

Star Trek, TOS

Law and Order, with Jerry Orbach AND Chris Noth (Briscoe & Logan were the Best)

Bakersfield P.D. - sure it was only on about 6 weeks, but those were quality weeks

Square Pegs

Dark Shadows (does that count?)

Seinfeld, by far!

Moonlighting had a good cast (everyone loved Bruce Willis, evryone else was adequate but not great), but was set apart by it's witty dialogue.

Best Television Ensemble Casts - Scott Miller - 07-21-2005

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who dug that show. It is positively criminal that it only lasted a nanosecond.

Best Television Ensemble Casts - Blake - 07-21-2005

I'll reiterate what I said in the last thread:

M*A*S*H (especially the early seasons)
Barney Miller

Others have made good suggestions here, too. I haven't seen Barney Miller in ages. Does Nick-at-Nite or one of those stations still show it? I especially loved Nick (Jack Soo): "Oh my God, I ate my eraser!" Smile And the episode where they eat the hash-laced brownies is a classic episode of any TV series, not just that one.

Hands down - The Sopranos.

In the 90's I thought Northern Exposure had a great cast too.

Boy Blake, did you just bring back memories. Barney Miller was Great! Jack Soo WAS classic, wasn't he? That's a good question. I sure would love to see those old reruns. But look what I found on Ebay:

How about Perry Mason and Ironside? Raymond Burr was surrounded by quality people in both series.
