If anyone in here is into WW2 holocaust films then you should check out the boy in the striped pajamas. This film has a very dark view of the nazis. in most films they really dont show any nazis being EVIL. this is one film that does. the ending is crazy the movie is good..see it!

We just finished watching Valkyrie. It was a good movie although I dislike Cruise.... he did an excellent job with his character. Worth your time... especially if you're a history buff.

I saw Valkyrie and I enjoyed it.

I am history buff! I really like "Mel Brooks' History of the World: Part 1". Big Grin

Sometimes history needs to be viewed with a laugh. In Brooks' world....it's all laughs. That's a good thing. Smile

I just saw Australia and I loved it! Yes, a movie for ladies I suppose. A historical chick flick...lol. A wonderful story full of the myths and tales of the beautiful land. Some breath taking scenery and lots of action. Worth the time to see it...yes 2 hours and 45 minutes. Big Grin
Maggers was correct in her original thread. This is just back up.

The guy fell asleep about 90 minutes into the movie muttering something about rather having needles in his eyes...meh...his loss.

We just finished watching Dark City with Keifer Sutherland, Rufus Sewell, William Hurt, Jennifer Connelly. From 1998, true but I missed it somehow.

A cross between The Matrix, Dick Tracey and the Gou'Uld from Stargate.
Not bad if you've nothing better to watch on a rainy night.

I thought this was a great movie. I dislike Tom Cruise, but my undying adoration for Bill Nighy made up for it. I had such an inappropriate thought when the bomb went off though. Given how many people wanted Hitler dead by then, and given the level of paranoia and security at the Wolf's Lair, I don't know how at least some of the people there didn't just fall on their asses laughing when that explosion happened. Or... maybe they did, and we just don't know it. Wink

And on the subject of Bill Nighy, he was in a great little movie a few years ago called Still Crazy. Definitely worth seeing if you ever have the opportunity.

As far as Tom Cruise is concerned, I don't care one way or the other. As far as his private life is concerned (especially his "religious beliefs") I think he's as nutty as squirrel shit, but he's a pretty good actor.

There were supposed to be two bombs in the briefcase, but Count Von Stauffenberg was interrupted when he was trying to arm them and only one bomb was used. So the explosion was only half of what was planned.

The table it was placed under was made of heavy oak, and someone moved the briefcase -- effectively away from Hitler.

Even then, the blast killed four people and almost everyone in the room was wounded. Although Count Von Stauffenberg was convinced that all the people in the room were killed.

Around five thousand people were executed in relation to this plot.

So the movie is very historically accurate.

Another movie which deals with this plot is: THE DESERT FOX - The Story of Rommel. The movie stars James Mason as Rommel, and the screen play was derived from the biography of Erwin Rommel, by Brigadier Desmond Young, MC.

Desmond Young had a cameo performance in the movie, playing himself toward the beginning of the movie -- although his voice was dubbed by Michael Rennie who narrated the movie.

The only inaccuracy I could find in THE DESERT FOX was in the character of Count Von Stauffenberg, who had a patch over his right eye instead of his left.

Another movie which makes a brief mention of this plot is IS PARIS BURNING, which stars Gert Frobe as General Von Choltitz. Another very historically accurate film.

I felt so stupid when we went to see this. I haven't been in school for a long time so I don't remember all my history. I knew people tried to kill Hitler but I didn't realize this movie was based on true account. I thought it could be one of those alternate reality movies (like V for Vendetta). I sat there the whole time thinking "That's great! I think they got him!". Hubby and son got a kick out of telling me that they knew what would happen and I didn't. But I loved this movie! I love Bill Nighy but not much Tom Cruise.

Medusa, many brave men tried to kill Hitler. They all failed. I can only conclude Hitler was being "protected" by his grim master Satan.
