Happy Birthday to The Man! - Lisa - 05-18-2005 Happy birthday, Effy. I didn't get a chance to check the board yesterday so I am coming in fashionably late. Hope your day was special! That's scorched signatures Scott. With smoldering dust jackets. Ken V. I may be old, but I didn't design the Anglo-American system of jurisprudence! Besides, to be more precise, it's the politicians who pass too many laws, which gives the lawyers too much work. Think of politicians as a disease. Lawyers are there to treat those afflicted by the laws the pols pass. Abolishing the income tax would put thousands of tax lawyers out of work, forcing them to go into productive professions. Abolishing punitive damages and strict liability would get thousands of lawyers out of PI work (both Plaintiff and Defense). Finally, abolishing all laws against drug use, gambling, prostitution, and other "vices" would put thousands of cops, corrections officers, judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys out of work. All of these things would be positive in the long run. OK, I'm off my soap box now. Besides, I'm on YOUR side, remember? Happy Birthday to The Man! - sll - 05-19-2005 A belated happy birthday and looking forward to 59 more years of stories. Happy Birthday to The Man! - Biggles - 05-19-2005 I was organizing my stored emails yesterday when I came across the first email I got from Paul. I had ordered a limited edition from Gauntlet, and Barry Hoffman had replied to a comment I had made (great customer service at Gauntlet). Anyway, Barry passed along some positive comments to Paul, and Paul replied to me by email! I never expected a best-selling author (my favorite one, no less) to email me. Well, that was two years ago last month. In the interim, I've joined this board, met with Paul at two GUs, and had the great pleasure of getting to know a lot of wonderful people. I think the occasion of Paul's birthday would be a great opportunity for us to share the circumstances surrounding how we first "met" him, whether in cyber-space, at a book signing, or whatever. Any takers? And thanks Paul for bringing us all together. I've enjoyed countless hours on this board; and I'm sure the rest of us have as well.
