Kolchak, The Nightstalker - Maggers - 10-05-2005 The Mad American Wrote:I watched this, but was giving it some time to process before reviewing it. All good points. I missed more than I thought because some of what you've written I didn't see. I totally agree that the original format of stand alone episodes is a great idea and really works for me. Kolchak, The Nightstalker - neotank - 10-05-2005 I liked it. I was a little let down, Stuart Townsend is an ok actor, but doesn't compare to Darren Mcgavin. And I also do not like him having a side kick. I think it would be more suspensful for him to go about his business alone. It seems the character formula for action suspense shows is always the same nowadays... good looking man, better looking woman, and a nerdy guy for comic relief. But I will say the directing is top notch. The scary scenes were actually scary! Off the subject, I remember the first time I saw the nightstalker two hour vampire movie I was REALLY young. I remember being fascinated by it. The part where the girl was found dead on the beach and Kolchak pointed out that there were no other footprints in the sand around her was classic. I never thought of that poem 'footprints' the same after that! Kolchak, The Nightstalker - Maggers - 10-06-2005 neotank Wrote:I liked it. I much prefer a lone wolf detective, so to speak, than the standard overplayed format that you mention above. Back in the day, I had a huge crush on Darren McGavin. I still think he's a hunky old guy. ![]() Kolchak, The Nightstalker - The Mad American - 10-06-2005 Maggers Wrote:I agree 100%. Admit it, it was A Christmas Story that made you have a crush on Darren McGavin....the leg lamp, the cursing....man I almost have a crush on him. ![]() I do like him as an actor in all seriousness though and agree with the lone wolf investigator type of thing. He was awesome as that in the original series, with his camera and big old tape recorder in tow. Believe it or not, I only saw "A Christmas Story" for the first time about 3 years ago. My nephews made me sit down and watch it with them on Christmas Eve - best darn Christmas Eve in a long time! No, it was good old Kolchak in this ratty, sleeveless T shirt that got me going .... way back in the day. I was a young teen at the time. My taste in men has always been eclectic. ![]() Kolchak, The Nightstalker - The Mad American - 10-07-2005 Last night's episode was much better then the first. It was a bit on the Xfiles side but was still much closer to what I am hoping to see from this series. Really enjoyed the way the climatic part at the end was done with the music in the background and the flashing back and forth from characters. Made it seem chaotic and intense to me for some reason. Still keeping my fingers crossed about this series. Kolchak, The Nightstalker - Maggers - 10-07-2005 The Mad American Wrote:Last night's episode was much better then the first. Not that I'm a scaredy cat or anything. :p I suspect it's going to get better and better...at least I hope so. And the triology of the leads didn't bother me so much last night. They worked better together this time. That scene at the Little League game was frightening. Kolchak, The Nightstalker - Noelie - 10-07-2005 Meh. It's just not the same without Darren McGavin. Kolchak, The Nightstalker - Mick C. - 10-07-2005 Anyone remember Darren McGavin's series "The Outsider"? He played a lone-wolf detective with few friends or associates but a very soft heart - very similar to Lew Archer. Kolchak, The Nightstalker - Jay #1 - 10-10-2005 It's darker. A little depressing at times. Still comes through alright. But there was always a sort of whimsical humor in the old series. I have yet to see any in this one. Though... the episode Thursday... SPOILERS (minor) Despite the lack of belief that the one police officer shows toward Kolchak, he still took steps to take out the one that caused all the murders. |
