Shame on us for not yet mentioning The Thing, the ultimate in last stand movies and one that I KNOW is revered by nearly all of us here.

Scott

P.S. I'm talking about the remake.

Back in the late sixties, when long straight hair was the fashion, I remember seeing a couple in an Alfa Romeo roadster ahead of me at the stop light. The young lady in the right seat had beautiful long straight honey-blonde hair. Then she turned her head to the right, and I learned that "she" was an Afghan Hound.

I'll never forget that. Big Grin

The Mad American Wrote:Man, you forgot one of the all time great historical last stands, "Themopolea (spl?) Don't know if there was ever a movie about it made but there is an awesome book called the "Gates of Fire"...(I can't remember the authors name...shame on me)

King Leonidus and 300 Spartans holding off and putting a pretty good beating on a Persian army said to be in the 50,000-100,000 range. Amazing stuff. And not to add a spoiler but they would have been able to hold off the Persians for much longer but they where betrayed....Great stuff if you like history and last stands. (also, in reading this book I found out the origination of the word "Dread Locks"...very interesting)

I found a movie at Amazon.com called "The 300 Spartans" starring Richard Egan (1962). Have never seen it. BTW, it's "Thermopylae".

LOL! That really cracked me up, Ken.

It still cracks me up. Especially since, from the rear, "she" looked gorgeous.

Fortunately you do NOT have an Afghan Hound face.

Woman's hair, beautiful hair,
Such words of praise I utter,
But oh how sick it makes me feel,
To find it in the butter. Big Grin

I saw it at a theater in 1962. I remember I liked it (at age 16). I don't remember anything else.

Uh, Butch and Sundance anyone? That's probably my fave...

Good call, great movie from start to finish. I had a disappointing conversation with a bunch of people who had never seen BCATSK. Their idea of a good western was Young Guns.
