Great Old Movies!! - mad4tunes - 06-23-2008

Well, since seven of my ten favorite movies were made before I was born...let me punch out the newer movies from the list and give a "classic top ten", using 1980 as my cutoff date.

In no particular order, except for #1.

1. The Wizard Of Oz
2. Casablanca
3. Citizen Kane
4. Rio Lobo
5. Any of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals, but especially Oklahoma!
6. Elmer Gantry
7. Shane
8. The Day the Earth Stood Still
9. Blazing Saddles
10. Fantasia

I'd like to think Jack would enjoy sitting down and watching some movies with me.

No Time to Be Young

Here's one I like:
"JOHNNY COME LATELY" starring James Cagney. He co-produced it with his brother and it has the only film appearance of famed American stage actress
Grace George (who did it for Cagney). Also included is featured Marjorie Main as 'Gashouse Mary', Marjorie Lord (Danny Thomas Show), Margret Hamilton and Hattie McDanial.
This is really a wonderful old movie and worth seeking out.

fpw Wrote:I'll name just one for now: Gunga Din.

Trivia note:
In 1986 Cary Grant was at the now Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ. He said the scene where Victor McLaglen knocked him out in the film really happend. Vic threw the punch a little wider and "POW"! They kept it in the film.
Just giving it all for the home team!

Them!
The Incredible Shrinking Man
The Fly (with Vincent Price)
and more recently:
Alien
The Fly (I know the Jeff Goldblum version is post 1980, but that was good too; each have their own merits.)

Old TV shows I have on tape and like: Little Rascles, anything with Roy Rogers, Star Trek(because it is SO dumb, though do love the Mad cartton, spock"Captain, I can't belive my ears!"
