Let me be the first to tell you....we do have a tendency to kid around alot. All in good fun with a common thread, if I may pun it there. So sorry...I have just loved your books for so long and was so excited to have a genuine signed edition, that I don't even want anyone to breathe on it.
And being a no one, in complete awe of a talent as great as yours, made the apparent rebuke even more humbling.
I can definitely take a joke (when I am on the inside), and will continue to read the forum, as I have in the past, I just let me excitement get away from me, but I shall refrain from posting in my exuberance.

I used to be the same way, overly protective of my books. Some I don't touch (the Whispers ed of The Tomb) if I have read the paperback version. Now, I'll loan out some of the special editions as long as my friends promise to read my copies wearing an environmental suit and only turn the pages with padded tongs.
As far as posting on this board, I too was reluctant. It seemed as though I was intruding on some sacred gathering. But, I decided to dive in head first, met some great friends off this board and ended up living out a long-lived dream: meeting the man himself. And it wasn't just a quick signature of one book and a gushing "thank you" from me. It was an amazing adventure that involved hundreds of signatures (not all for me, I got about 40% that night), some drinking, lots of laughter and a over-exuberant gushing "thank you" from me.
Now, the board is friendly territory. Don't worry about stepping on toes. Most people are very forgiving (though there are a few who I am sure are plotting my demise).
Be exuberant. Be over-the-top. BE YOURSELF. But, don't be shy (or paranoid). We welcome everyone!

Welcome, Summer. Stick around and you will even find opportunities to meet THE MAN, himself. Don't worry, he doesn't bite (unless you ask nicely). Give him enough wine and he barely even growls.
There are yearly GUs in which we all get together and party with the man. Everyone is implicitly invited, but take this as an explicit invitation, if you desire. They're usually in the late winter/early spring, though, so you just missed the last one (so did I ).Anyhoo, welcome again.
