Harbingers - t4terrific - 12-13-2005

In case you haven't seen it yet, this is from Gauntlet about Harbingers:

Set for publication Spring 2006

"No more coincidences for you."

That was what the lady with the dog told Jack at the end of Hosts.

Was she right?

In Harbingers, F. Paul Wilson's 10th Repairman Jack novel, it starts off so simply: Jack, still down from the tragic events of Infernal, is hanging in Julio's when a regular named Timmy asks him for help. His teenage niece has been missing since this morning; the police say it's too early to worry, but Timmy knows something bad has happened. Jack says he'll put the word out on the street.

This simple request triggers a chain of seemingly coincidental events that lead Jack into the darkest days of his life.

At the end of Gateways Rasalom told him:

". . . Killing you now might be something of a favor. It would spare you so much pain in the months to come. And why should I do you a favor? Why should I spare you that pain? I don't want you to miss one iota of what is coming your way . . . A strong man slowly battered into despair and hopelessness . . . That is a delicacy. In your case, it might even approach ecstasy."

That pain is no longer in the future. It is here. Jack is desperate . . . And the last thing you want to do is make Jack desperate. That's when things begin to blow up and people begin to die.

A hang-onto-your-hat-and-heart thriller of triumph and tragedy that barrels along at F. Paul Wilson's trademarked breakneck pace.

Harbingers is a watershed novel. It changes everything. And just because someone was around in the old Nightworld doesn't mean he/she will be around in the revision.

That's why the revision should NOT be read before Harbingers. In fact, I'm going to see about adjusting the schedules so that the revision is published after Harbingers.

NightWorld was my introduction to your writing (leave it to me to be bassackwards) So all this time I thought I knew the outcome and who would be there at the end with Jack. Ya just put a big ol' smile on my face. Many thanks!

Okay! Have ya'll had all your fun? So I mispelled HARBINGERS. I never thought A small infraction would cause such a whirlwind of chaos. Now a quote from Chevy Chase. "It take a big man to admit when he's wrong. I'm NOT a big man".

LOL. Spelling counts .... at least in thread titles. People make typos and massacre spelling, grammar and punctuation with impunity here, though inwardly some of us probably cringe at what's written.

But a thread title...well, folks will take you to task if it's wonky, especially if it's the name of one of FPW's books.

Lisa used to be the old board's Ayatollah of the Word, issuing Grammar Fatwahs left and right. The careless would cringe in terror as they clicked the POST button. But the board was much less busy then (and so was Lisa, I assume). Not even she could keep up with all the gaffs these days.

Don't worry, jaybird, a single typo doesn't land you on my list... or at least not close to the top of it. And believe me, there IS a list. I may not have time to comment, but I'm keeping track. Oh, yes, I am.

So, does that mean people not around in the old Nightworld might be in the revision? Someone who might have strong maternal instincts but previously "died" in the Pine Barrons?
