War of the Worlds - fpw - 12-12-2004 Bluesman Mike Lindner Wrote:Anybody remember the Gold Key comic version of WOTW? Came out around '59, '60? And call me a softy, but I puddle up remembering how HMS Thunder Child took the fight to the enemy. Even with every man aboard her dead from the black smoke, even red-hot and melting from the heat rays, she took another Martian tripod down... You sure that wasn't Classics Illustrated? The Ben Liebrand (?) Dance Mix in the late 80's created a re-surge of interest in the UK. Grand stuff. I haven't seen it in over 4 decades, but I still recall the panel showing the human quislings in weird body-armor hunting down other humans, with a tripod behind them, overseeing them. Never heard it, but I recall selling it when I worked in a record store in Brockport. Didn't the cover show the battle between the Thunder Child and the tripods? Some lovely work by Phil Lynott. Dave War of the Worlds - Bluesman Mike Lindner - 12-13-2004 Dave Wrote:Yeah, that's the cover alright. You never heard it! Bluesman, you got some catching up to do. Better than QUADROPHENIA? War of the Worlds - Dave - 12-13-2004 Bluesman Mike Lindner Wrote:I'll make it a point to buy it! But Dave...rock opera at its =finest=? Dave War of the Worlds - Annice Burdeos - 12-13-2004 Kenji Wrote:Next summer, Spielberg + Cruise coming again! That's the official jargon for remake! Giving Cruise a family and all that is fine but I like the straightforwardness of the Gene Barry version. It seemed more realistic especially after having heard stories regarding the Welles radio version. Spielberg generally does a fine turn with science fiction , so I am hopeful. (Even through Minority Report wasn't very good. ) Maybe it's just Cruise who seems to be searching for another "look at what I can do" role. (Collateral fell into this category) Anyway, since this was fast tracked, it will be interesting to see whether or not this is any good. Its tentatively slated for late next year. (Even through Minority Report wasn't very good. ) I agree with a little part of you, Annice. But it was not totally bad. One problem was too long running time. Original story is short story. So, I think ideal running time is 1 hour 35 min or 1 hour 50 min. 2 hours 25 min is too long. |
