Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Tony H - 07-24-2011

It looks that way to me. They used the general plot line and character. It seems to me that they are going back to the beginning and pretending the Tim Burton film didn't exist, that way they can branch off into their own sequels without being tied to the old films or the remake continuity.

Sort of pulling a J.J. Abrams and the way his Star Trek film rewrote (or obliterated) all previous Star Trek canon.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Annice Burdeos - 08-09-2011

I did see Apes on opening day and rather enjoyed it. The science was based in reality and the interaction between Lithgow and Ceasar was particularly poignant. It was easy to see how the Apes took over and ruled Earth. Franco conducted himself well and it performed past all expectations! There was a couple of weak performances (Pinto and Felton) but overall a very good film.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Alvin Fox - 08-10-2011

I haven't seen it but I heard there's a scene after the end credits where Superman recruits Caesar to join his group of Super Friends. :becky:

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - The Mad American - 08-10-2011

I saw it and loved it. I am a total fanboy of the original series and this "remake" (it isn't really a remake, more of a foundation creating movie based on some of the original series story-lines) holds up really well.

It isn't a perfect movie but there is so much to love about this movie if you enjoyed the original series of movies and want to forget the Tim Burton travesty. So many little tips of the hat to the original moves too that I may have to make a list to catch them all.

Well worth a viewing.

Avoid the hot steamy pile of poo that is "Cowboys and Aliens" and go see this movie instead.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - PicardRex - 08-10-2011

I agree this movie was actually rather good. While still not as great as the original, it manages to be be quite good and pay homage to the original franchise in lots of different ways. One thing I was surprised about was the lack of bloodshed and violence in general, it was kinda subdued, which is not a bad thing in this case.

I found it to be a kind of remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, very similar story with enough tweaked to keep you interested.

It hits the Conquest storyline but I kind of see it as a pre-Conquest movie. And with the introduction of the other factors that bring about mans downfall it does tweak the story a bit. But I liked that tweak.

Excellent review, Tony.

But there's something about apes that just pisses me off. Not sure why.

Great review. I have said I loved this movie and you hit on a lot of the reasons that I did. How many tips of the hat can you name from the original series in "Rise"? There were so many I am still catching them now.

Great review Tony. You've actually piqued my interest enough to see it. (on pay per view) I will hold you responsible if it sucks!
