The perfect christmas gift - The Mad American - 12-15-2010

Scott Miller Wrote:Well I read it to the 5th graders last week and the response was quite positive, although one girl told me it was "long". In one class it generated some great discussions about friendship, trust and stealing.

Yesterday I read it to the 3rd graders and they loved it. One class wrote me a letter and here it is:

Dear Mr. Scott

We were excited to hear your imaginative story. Some of our favorite parts were when we saw The Christmas Thingy, when Jessica and Thingy became best friends and when we found out Thingy changed his ways. Your voice made the story interesting and made us feel like we were in the story. Mr. Scott your story was so special to us that we will never forget it.

Thank you for inviting third grade to this reading. One of your favorite stories is now one of our favorite stories.

Your friends,

The Team Lions

So thanks again to FPW for giving me something to read to help connect with the youth and I swear I told them that you were the author.

Awesome story Scott.

It is a great feeling for sure; I am suddenly in demand as a guest reader for the school. I hope to implement a book club in the coming year called Books and Brooms.

Tomorrow its the fourth graders turn for The Christmas Thingy and then I get to be the guy who swears in new citizens on Ellis Island for the third grade.

I'm reading it to a bunch of 1st and 3rd graders tomorrow. Gotta tell you, I'm sick of the story, but the kids always love it. So I keep on keepin on.

Cobalt read the story to Kayden, Sunday night. He didn't move an inch as he was so wrapped up in the story.

And to think I had just bought this off of eBay a few weeks ago. Now do I want a second one or not.

The story may get old but the kids reaction to it never does. A bunch of kids have told me they want a Thingy of their own.

Another successful reading yesterday to the third graders and seeing as how I've already transcribed a previous letter I'll spare you the one I got yesterday but must say it was one the the nicest letters I've ever received. And I should mention that the one of the teachers was weeping like a baby she was so moved by it, the story-not the letter.

Today I'm off to my daughter's class for another reading.

Those are so cool Kenji! You know I had Paul sign that little Dydeetown book you sent me when he was in Houston last time. We were flipping it around trying to figure out where to sign it! ha ha
