Netflix help? - Bluesman Mike Lindner - 03-22-2004

[I'm not familiar with NETFLIX, but if you're looking for a wonderful film, let me recommend THE CEREMONY OF INNOCENCE. Takes place in 11th century England with Ethelred the Unready (Richard Kiley) dealing--trying to deal--with the Danish invasion. If memory serves, it was a NET Playhouse production from 1969--leastways, I first saw it then on NYC channel 13. Ronald Ribman's script, the ensemble acting, the sets, the costumes--all top shelf. All done on a small budget, not like BECKET or THE LION IN WINTER.
Put it this way, Paul--if you get it and you're disappointed, I'll pay your money back myself.
But I'm confident I won't be giving up a dime. It's that fine.

FPW,

I strongly recommend "Fresh" directed by Boaz Yakin. I've never known anyone who has been disappointed with this recommendation; guess that's throwing down the guantlet a wee bit, huh?

Also, "Hard Eight" and "In the Company of Men".

If you're feeling peckish, check out "Ravenous".

And if you want to indulge your B-grade sweet tooth, you can't go wrong with "The Sword and the Sorcerer". I still think Richard Lynch is a great villain (even if he is crazy in real life).

I have all of these on dvd if you'd prefer to save yourself the rental price.

Just let me know.

Brett

Thanks so far, everybody. A lot of these I've seen, some I've seen and forgotten (and might rent again), and some are new. As for saving money, thanks, but Netflix charges a flat monthly fee no matter how many you rent.

But don't stop now -- keep 'em coming.

I don't know who reccommended Interstate 60 (way back on the old board) but I saw it last night and found it charming. Amazing talent in the cameos.

I just watched a movie called "Below" that I found pretty impressive. It's a thriller/haunted house story set on a submarine during WWII. Great atmosphere and a strong script.

I saw that recently too and really liked it. I think it had some problems but overall I was really impressed.

Timeline is cheese, limburger cheese.

Running on Karma is a far out Chinese film. It isn't perfect but has enough crazy scenes to make it worth checking out.

Just saw a film called Roger Dodger. If you get a chance to check it you do so. Very funny, well written dialogue.

Saw it and I agree. Saw North By Northwest again after many years. I didn't remember it as being so witty. Excellent delivery of an excellent script by an excellent cast.
