The Keep-DVD. - Sigokat - 12-24-2007

Since I just read The Keep for the first time I am also interested in seeing the movie...no matter how bad it is.

If bootleg is the only way to go then so be it. If the big wigs want to keep it from the public because their pockets aren't fat enough then I will go to the bootleggers, plain and simple.

There are other shows/movies that I want on DVD but are not available because someone in Hollywood doesn't think they can make enough money...fuck them...I'm going to the bootleggers...maybe that will show the big wigs.

Side note: FPW is not one of the "big wigs" I am referring too.

How about this, buy a legit copy of the movie on VHS and back it up to a DVD. IMO that SHOULD be the legal way to have the Keep (or any other movie) on DVD as long as you are not selling it. If this person is willing to openly commit a fellony by selling this on the internet, is this some one that you want to trust with your credit card info?

If you buy a bootleg, get the widescreen transfer (off the laserdisc). I've got my problems with the film, but the set design and cinematography are superb and best appreciated in the original ratio.

Some of us do not have those resources or even know how to do such a thing. I'm in Kuwait...I will be here till the summer of 2009 (yes that's 2009...not a typo) I have no VHS player, nor do they sell them here. Even if I could get my hands on a VHS player I would then have to go through the hassle of finding the software that would enable me to transfer the movie from VHS to DVD...blah blah blah...its not worth it. I have more important things to do with what little free time I have over here.

Besides, you want to see the real bootleg business you should see what they do over here. Almost any tv show and/or movie (not The Keep unfortunatley) can be bought from a local vendor here for mere pennies. You can buy an entire season of a tv show for like $10...movies for like $2-$5...no one cares. While copyrighting is illegal I do not see it as being a crime that concerns anybody other then those that have already made millions off the product.

So go ahead and keep filling out internet polls begging for the release of your favorite movie...the shit don't work...been there...done that...no one cares because no one is listening.

I guess it depends on what movie you're wanting. I signed up for GRAND PRIX on DVD, I had to wait for a couple of years, but it was finally released, and to my surprise, the "extras" alone were worth the price of the movie.

Yep, they just want your email address so they can sell it to a spamer.

Ummm...are you being sarcastic here? You're the one that suggested going to imdb.com to begin with.

Regardless, I guess I'm just one of those assholes that is ruining it for everyone else. Its okay, I'm good at being an asshole, so I might as well keep doing what I'm good at. ;-)

Nope, not being sarcastic. I said that you CAN go to places LIKE imdb to patrician to have movies released on DVD. I did not say that I did it or have ever done it. Let me clarify this for you. I have no problem with backing up a movie or a cd for personal use, I do have a problem with doing it with the intent of selling it. I live WAY out in the country and have little time to watch movies. If my wife rents something (30 miles one way to the video store) that I want to watch and do not have the time to do so, I have no problem with dumping it to my computer and watching it later. I also have no problem transferring my un-released VHS tapes to DVD. I paid my money to watch it. Is it legal? NO! Should it be? I think so. But doing any of this to make money is definitely wrong, no matter how you look at it and it is the reason that they changed the law to make backing up ANYTHING for ANY reason illegal. It is also the reason video games are so expensive. Like I said before, if you want to trust someone like that with your credit card information, go for it! It’s your choice. BTW, I have been to more countries than I have not been to, and have seen lots of black markets, maybe even the one your talking about.

Wow, thanks for the lesson...I'm so glad there is someone like you around to teach me about the ways of the world. Rolleyes

For starters, I never said you did sign any petitions on imdb...I merely said that you suggested it and earlier I said if that's what you want to do then so be it...knock yourself out.

I shared my life situation and you shared yours. Frankly, I care as little about yours as you probably do about mine. Like I said, I'm an asshole...never tried to deny it...sorry its just who I am.

I'm well aware of why prices for DVDs, videogames, etc. are "expensive". Does it suck having to pay $50 for a videogame...only if you cannot afford it. I can afford to buy whatever movies, games, etc I want (not bragging, just a fact of life) so therefore the extra money I have to spend does not bother me.

I'm not saying that violating copyright laws is okay, I've never done it and I'm sure you are aware that just by burning those discs you rent to your computer for your personal use is technically stealing as well...but again, do what you want. I, nor probably anyone else, really cares.

My reason for not buying the bootleg videos over here (moreso when I was in Iraq and not here in Kuwait) had nothing to do with copyright violations, but everything to do with where my money was going. I didn't want the money I spent on some bootlegs going to fund the locals outside the wire that were shooting mortars and rockets at us or building IEDs...that was my ONLY reason for not buying them.

For the record I have not bought the bootleg copy of The Keep from the site that was posted earlier...I'm still debating it, we'll see.

Congratulations on your worldly travels. I hope you enjoyed yourself. I don't know if you've ever been to Kuwait, but drop by and see us sometime...don't worry for the most part they still like Americans over here. Next time I have to go to Iraq we can travel up there together so you can add that country to your list of travels as well...I've seen it already...can give you the tour...Babylon is especially beautiful (was there in '03).
