Nightworld/All The Rage Question - Bluesman Mike Lindner - 09-10-2007

Blake Wrote:I've been wondering about those connections. In the past, you've said that you won't write a post-Nightworld novel. Would you now revise that answer and say you've already written them?

Blake

Blake, I do believe Humanity is crying out for a post-NIGHTWORLD novel. Let's see...what might happen?...

"Well now, ain't you the tasty little morsel?" So said the filthy bummer to Gia.
A littler morsel fired four shots from the pistol Jack had given her. Two missed. The other two tore the bummer's face away.
"Don't cry, Mommy! Here comes Jack now. This is easy. This is fun."

True, but it still changes my perspective on those stories a little bit.

IanSF Wrote:But it does make me wonder where 'Lipidleggin' fits into the timeline.

Now that's an interesting thought! You're right. It would be interesting to see where that fits.

Well...Jack does have an Uncle Gurney, and I believe Peter LaNague had an ancestor named Gurney.

Could be just coincidence though.

I thought there are no more coincidences...

I spotted the 'who' connections, what I was trying to figger was the 'when'.
There is no inkling of an emerging 'nanny state' up to now in RJ's world, so how long after 'Nightworld' would it have taken to establish one?

Filthy bummer?

Do you mean homosexual?

Britfan Wrote:There is a LaNague chronology on the page

"Lipidleggin'" (included in An Enemy of the State)
An Enemy of the State
Dydeetown World*
The Tery*
Healer I
"To Fill The Sea and Air" (included in Healer)
Healer II
"The Man With The Anteaters" (included in Wheels Within Wheels)
Healer III
"Higher Centers" (included in Wheels Within Wheels)
Wheels within Wheels
"Ratman"(included in An Enemy of the State)
Healer IV
Healer V

This excludes Masque - I had always considered this part of the LaNague series, in a similar way that Dydeetown world is.

This is really confusing me!

All of these little short stories included in other books, how are you supposed to know where to start? It says on the inside front cover of my copy of Implant that Healer was written in '76, then Wheels Within Wheels came out in '78 and An Enemy of the State (the second book in the chronology) wasnt written until '80.

Is An Enemy of the State a prequel to Healer? How can 'Ratman' be a sequel to Wheels Within Wheels if it was published in An Enemy of the State?

Do I start reading them with Healer or An Enemy of the State?

Simple Solution: Read AEOTS, WWW, then HEALER.

That list is a chronology that looks confusing because of the sections from Healer spread throughout. Healer covers 1200 years, so that's why it's broken up. I did that for you in The LaNague Chronicles, but you can do it yourself by hopping around in the 3 infrapress editions.

I still don't get it, but I imagine I will once I get stuck in. Cheers FPW, I'll leave my copy of Healer (when it arrives) on the shelf until I've gotten through An Enemy of the State and Wheels Within Wheels.

Thanks very much for the help, guys. Smile

If you haven't already found a copy, you can get it (and a few more FPW books) at http://www.play.com
I've just ordered Healer, Enemy and Wheels, all brand new (to replace my battered and very old copies) and at just under £29, reasonably priced too.
