I actually think it's better than Goodfellas.

It is THE best movie this year, bar none, and will take home the Oscar and this year, finally, Scorcese will take his long overdue Oscar home, too.

What a movie! It grabs you from the first scene and the first licks of "Let It Bleed." Every performance is a gem. It's a great script with terrific dialogue. The film is seamless. I've got to see it again. It's rich and so layered with parallel plot lines running rings around each other.

I've got to get the soundtrack, but it's not released yet.

LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!!

So did you like it? Big Grin

I (sacreligously?) am not a huge fan of Goodfellas. Let me amend that: I am not a big fan of the second half of Goodfellas. The first half is incredible, but once it transitions to the 70's and the plot becomes about drugs, it loses most of my interest.

I prefer A Bronx Tale, myself.

I do think that I need to see The Departed, though.

I liked Bronx Tail but thought it a little too derivative of Goodfellas. The kid that played Deniro's son ( I forget his name but he also had a good role in the Sopranos) killed an off duty police officer last year in NYC in a botched robbery sttempt.

I also thought Casino was a little too derivative of Goodfellas. Scorcese flat out stole his own scene where the steadicam walks through the bar and the narrator introduces all the minor characters. My favorite was Jimmy two-times who says everything twice "I'm gonna go park the car. Park the car".

I guess I'm in the minority here but I thought the film was good, not great. I give it a solid B. And definitely nowhere near Goodfella's. I thought the presence of Jack Nicholson detracted from the film. It was almost as if Scorcese gave Jack a long leash and let him ham it up too much and I thought that hurt the film.

Wahlberg was great and DeCaprio was phenomenal though. Matt Damon was merely good.

I just think I've seen this cat and mouse stuff too many times and the soundtrack needed a kick.

Best movie of the year so far for me has to be "A History Of Violence".

Just walked out of the theater. Still high on the coffee.

Wow. Leo can actually act. And well. Usually I crack plots less than half way through, but on this one, i can honestly say that it took me by surprise.

I think i have to watch it again.

Today, I saw The Departed.

Best film? Yes, exactly! Today is still January, so I don't know how many good movies come to Japan. But so far, this is best film of the year. I like Martin Scorsese's movies. My favorite one is Goodfellas, but now, "The Departed" is his best! DeCaprio, Damon, Nicholson, Sheen, Walberg....everybody were GREAT! Scorsese deserve to get Oscar. He took Golden Globe Award Best Director. So I think possibility is there.

Thrilling, intelligent tactics, bloody violence(I call it "Scorsesism"), and useful cell phones....what a awesome flick! Especially those last sequences were speedy like a rollercoaster's nose dive, so I felt vertigo. I lost my words. When movie finished, I said only "Wow....".

This is truly five stars film!!!

I must buy soundtrack! Then.....maybe 6 months later(?) I'll buy DVD.

I went back to see "The Departed" again. It's even better the second time around. What a terrific film. I saw some things I missed the first time because the movie speeds by. The first time I saw it, I was on the edge of my seat from first scene to last. I didn't feel that frenetic energy the second time, but that is not a loss. It's a film that is rich enough to be seen multiple times. DiCaprio is even better on second viewing, and frankly, there isn't a bad actor in the bunch. Matt Damon was great, and Alec Baldwin is my new favorite middle-aged character actor and I love to see him poke fun at himself. His repartee with Marc Wahlburg, in particular, is hilarious. Every character actor in the ensemble, no matter how small the role, adds something special.

If you haven't seen "The Departed" yet don't let it pass you by.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but Miller's Crossing is also about the Irish mob, done by the Cohen brothers, and it's SPECTACULAR!! Cinematography, twists and turns, EXCELLENT acting (Gabriel Byrne, John Turtorro, Marcia Gay Hardin, Steve Buschemy, Jack Finney), make this one of my all-time favorite movies! Anyone else seen it? "I can't die in the woods, like a dumb animal...look into your heart, I'm begging you, look into your heart..."
