They might be a bit heavier but you need that heaviness to lessen the recoil.
I am a huge Glock fan because they are 1) simple (they have 50% less components than most guns), and 2) interchangeable. The full magazine of a full-size Glock will fit in the compact model, although the mag will stick out of the bottom a bit. Still, it is good to only have to carry one set of magazines for your main and backup weapon.
The best system out there, IMO, even if my agency doesn't let us carry them.
<sigh> I guess my Sig will have to suffice.....

The Chinese (Norinco) made a 9mm version of the TT33 for export to the US. When I bought my Chinese Tokarev, I got it in the original 7.62x25mm. Quite frankly, a low capacity (8 rounds?) single stack single action 9mm didn't fit my needs. It was really a piece of crap anyway (IMHO). Soon thereafter I bought a CZ52 in 7.62 Tokarev. Now that's a nice gun! If hollowpoints were generally available, the 7.62Tok would be a decent round--flat trajectory, high velocity (especially the Czech ammo in the CZ52). You could hand load the 110 grain JHP bullets normally used in the .30 Carbine round into the 7.62Tok and have a nice stopper. Ken Valentine should try this.

The PT-109 was a great weapon--could sink a destroyer--but alas very difficult to conceal!
