My second choice would be Kate Winslett...also a very talented actress although not an Oscar winner...yet. Kate will also turn 33 in October, the same month that Reynolds turns 32.

Woa...just realized that Winslett's biggest movie, to date, had her running around on a big ship that evetually sinks, talking with a guy named "Jack." Rakoshi has a big ship that eventually sinks and Gia walking around talking to our guy, "Jack" (granted, Gia is never actually "on" the ship, but still).

Serendipty or fearful symetry?

Hard to call.

Maybe James Cameron can Direct/Produce? Even more spooky!

I think Elizabeth Mitchell would be excellent for the part of Gia.

Hi, Ken...I've watched her only infrequently on the big-screen...I don't watch TV so I have no reference for her performances on Lost or other small-screen work.

Can you help me out with some info...is Gia supposed to be a little younger than Jack, or a little older? For some reason my brain wants to say younger.

Ms. Mitchell is 38 next week and, I think, would have more success playing an older-than-Jack Gia.

If Gia is younger than Jack, then I guess joelfinkle's suggestion of Katherine Heigl would be closer to the mark, age-wise, than my suggestions were.

I don't watch television either -- not for more than 20 years. So I haven't seen any of her TV work either.

Her age has never been mentioned, but I'd say that Gia is slightly younger than Jack. She graduated from college, (majoring in art IIRC) moved to New York, probably worked there for a couple of years before meeting Richard Westphalen, Married and had a daughter who is now around eight years old.

So let's see:

Four years of college would make her 21 years old. Let's say two years in New York before marrying, (23 years old) another year or two before she had Vicky, (24-25) Vicky is 8, so that would make Gia around 32-33.

As I see it, the actual age of the actor or actress doesn't really matter. As long as it's reasonably close. What's more important is how well the actor/actress fits the part. How well she looks when she's playing opposite Jack: do they look good together, Does she look like someone Jack would fall in love with, does Jack look like someone she would fall in love with?

This reminds me of a movie that a friend criticized because he didn't like the actress -- didn't find her attractive. My thoughts were, Hey! It's not about you! It's about HIM and who he fell in love with. She fits that part well.

(The movie was For Love Of The Game, and the parts were played by Kevin Costner and Kelly Preston.)

She's very pretty, but to me, she doesn't have that vulnerable look which I associate with Gia. But then I've never seen her on film. Mind you, I've never seen Ryan Reynolds on film either, so I don't know how well they'd look together.

To me, Elizabeth Mitchell visually fits the part of Gia, and from what I've seen of her in films, she has the vulnerability that the Gia character needs, as well as the strength she would need to show as the mother of a child in grave danger.

We'll see -- if I live long enough to see the film actually completed. Big Grin

If she does not end up cast as Gia, I think she could easily be cast as Kate for the Hosts movie. Strong female character but vulenrable regarding her new life choice and the deteriorating relationship with her partner. Her filmography states that she played a Doctor on ER, so she would be credible as a pediatrician. She'd be great.

Either her or Laura Linney (at 44, a tad older than Elizabeth, but Kate was a fair jog older than Jack, if memory serves).

I'm a bit of a stickler for continuity, that's why I'm interested in the age issue. However, as you say, it is moot as long as the performances ring true, on-screen.

Cheers,

Right; about ten years older.

Hmmm.

Since Ms. Mitchell is a little young to play Jack's 10 year older sister and if she doesn't get cast as Gia, then her time on ER would serve her well if she was cast as the pediatric AIDS doctor, Alicia Clayton, from Legacies; Another very strong, confident woman who is vulnerable due to her horrific past.

I can see that. I can definitely see that.

Sure, Ryan Reynolds would make a great Repairman Jack, especially after his appearance in Amityville Horror, the remake. But let me toss this possibility out there... Thomas Jane. Non-descript, bland looking, chiseled enough and cat-like in his movements. Just a thought.

Actually, here's my cast in my own mind...

Jack... Thomas Jane
Abe... Judd Hirsch
Gia... Gwyneth Paltrow or Claire Danes
Kusim Bhakti... Pedro Altamirano (He played in Collateral Damage with Schwarzenegger...)
The Rakoshi... Andy Serkis in CGI

Just a thought. I've read every single RMJ book out there, and this is just my insight. Lemme know what ya think.
