The boys had Big Wheels as tricycles when little. Their regular 2 wheelers were BMX youth trail bikes. Dark in color with bright flame/lightning stickers all over. Fond memories of hubby swearing as he assembled them!

BMX/dirt bikes were definitely all the rage for kids around then.

If it's a girl's bike you are writing about Paul, don't forget the streamers from the handlebars.
If it's a boy's bike, you could have baseball cards attached to the spokes of the wheels, so they make noise when you ride.
