Scotty has beamed up - Keith the Elder - 07-20-2005 James (Scotty) Doohan passed away this morning. All other Starfleet Chief Engineers paled by comparison. He will be missed!!! http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/07/20/obit.doohan.ap/index.html Scotty has beamed up - ShadowLord - 07-20-2005 Yes I was one of those kids...who grew up on the show... He will be missed.... ShadowLord Scotty has beamed up - Peter - 07-20-2005 What can I say? He was part of the creation of something enduring and wonderful. Oh, I don't dress up or go to conventions or anything that positive but I know that, deep down inside, I am a trekkie. I always felt that the series and the films just held out so much hope that things would not only go on but get better and that was the secret of their appeal. "Can you make Warp One Scotty?" "Aye, Captain, and maybe a wee bit more!" He will be missed. Nobody said "Dilithium crystals" like Scotty! And could he hold his Scotch! No wonder he was my hero back in college. Requiescat in pace, my friend. There will never be another Scotty. Scotty has beamed up - IAmSpartachris - 07-20-2005 I actually got just a wee bit choked up when I heard this today. First DeForest Kelly, now James Doohan. The old guard is deserting us. First star to the left and straight on 'till morning Scotty. Scotty has beamed up - Maggers - 07-20-2005 Ditto to what everyone has said so eloquently on this thread. "I canna' give her anna' more, cap'n! She's at full power now!" The original Star Trek will always be my favorite. Scotty's star is shining brightly now, up in the cosmos he wandered so well. Scotty has beamed up - IAmSpartachris - 07-20-2005 I read that his wife will be sending some of his ashes into space just as Majel Barret Rodenberry did with Gene's. Fitting. Sad news indeed. Everyone should read the article that Keith provided, the man really did lead an interesting life. Scotty has beamed up - Medusa - 07-20-2005 It's so sad. My father was a big-time trekker and got me into it. Everytime I think of Scotty I remember: "There be Whales here!" He will be missed. Scotty has beamed up - Kenji - 07-21-2005 He was miracle worker in Enterprise. When I was kid, I always enjoyed his activity in Star Trek. Whatever happened to Enterprise, he always saved ship and crews. Especially, his activity in movies were outstanding. Do you remember his witticism? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scotty:All systems automated and ready. A chimpanzee and two trainees could run her. Kirk: Thank you, Mr. Scott. I'll try not to take that personally. Where's the damn anti-matter inducer? Scotty: Hello, computer. Dr. Nichols: Just use the keyboard. Scotty: Keyboard. How quaint. McCoy: You realize that by giving him the formula you're altering history. Scotty: Why? How do we know he didn't invent the thing? Sulu: ...I'm counting on Excelsior. Scotty: Excelsior? Why in God's name would you want that bucket of bolts? Scotty: Aye, and if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a wagon! Kirk: Come, come, Mr. Scott. Young minds, fresh ideas. Be tolerant! Scotty: [to Kirk about ship status] Ah. All I can say is they don't make them like they used to. Kirk: You told me you could get this ship operational in two weeks, I gave you three, what happened? Scotty: I think you gave me TOO much time, Captain. Kirk: Very well, Mr Scott. Carry on. Chief Engineer Scott making a log entry] Scotty: USS Enterprise, shakedown crew's report. I think this new ship was put together by monkeys. Oh, she's got a fine engine, but half the doors won't open, and guess whose job it is to make it right. Uhura: [walking in] I know you'll whip her into shape, Scotty, you always do. Scotty: [getting up] Uhura, I thought you were on leave. Uhura: And I thought we were supposed to be going together. Scotty: Oh, I can't leave her now when she needs me the most. Kirk: Engine room! Scotty: Scotty here. Kirk: We'll need all the power you can muster, mister. Scotty: Don't you worry, Captain. We'll beat those Klingon devils, even if I have to get out and push. Kirk: I hope it won't come to that, Mr. Scott. The energizer's bypassed like a Christmas tree, so don't give me too many bumps. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I miss him so much. McCoy:"Hey, Scotty! Welcome to heaven! Come on in!" Scotty:"Oh, doctor! It's been a long time since I saw you last!" McCoy:"I've been waiting for you. Let's have a whisky?" Scotty:"Yeees! That's good idea!" RIP, Scotty! We never forget you. |
