Prometheus Awards - Ken Valentine - 05-13-2004
The Libertarian Futurist Society just announced Prometheus Award finalists for Best Novel, and Prometheus Hall of Fame finalists for Classic Fiction. The winners will be announced at the 62nd World Science Fiction Convention, Noreascon Four, in Boston, Massachusetts, September 2-6, 2004.

The awards honor outstanding science fiction/fantasy that explore the possibilities of a free future, champions human rights (including personal and economic liberty), dramatizes the perennial conflict between individuals and coercive governments, or critiques the tragic consequences of abuse of power -- especially by the State.
The Prometheus Award was established in 1979, making it one of the most enduring awards after the Nebula and Hugo Awards, and one of the oldest fan-based awards currently in science fiction.

I couldn't understand what the hell Naked Empire is doing in this list, until I read the below.

And it makes sense. That book was nothing but political agenda wrapped up in a fantasy setting. I liked the books before it, loved some of them even, but this one just reaked (sp?) of 'the message' whilst trotting out the most dull and boring story yet.
Congrats, Paul, on both nominations and making the final with Sims. Here's hoping for a win, and then they can go bankrupt again for two years. Only kidding (on the bankruptcy thing).

I especially like how the first winner almost brought the whole award program to a screeching halt. So, not only was "Wheels within Wheels" the first winner, but the only winner to keep the throne for more than one year.
