Carnivale - Marc - 02-27-2005

Has anyone else watched this series? I remember Tony mentioning it on here about a year ago. Finally rented the first season and am loving it. It's strange, quirky and mysterious characters are well written and interesting. Micahel J. Anderson heads the cast as the boss of the carnival and really shines in my opinion.

What's really interesting is how there are two separate storylines thus far (one with the carnival folk and one with Brother Joseph and his missionary work). There are threads tying them together but nothing concrete. And it doesn't feel contrived which is good to see.

Season 2 is currently airing on HBO. If you haven't seen this series you should give the first season a try. Well worth your time.

I have several screener DVDs of the series, but because I bought them at different times, I haven't seen them sequentially. But every episode I did see packed a wallop, storywise and visually. Now that the series has begun its season two, I'd love to see the whole series one in sequence. Is the DVD Series One available for rental or did you buy the set?

I like Carnivale. I just wish they could advance the story along a little faster. HBO continues to produce top notch programming. The Sopranos, Deadwood and Carnivale are better than any of the movies contending for the Academy Awards tonight.

The first season is available for purchase and rental. I rented through Netflix.
