I know not everyone is an animal lover but those that are will understand.

most people here know I am deployed to Afghanistan and let me tell you its no fun here. but today on my way back to work from lunch a Navy dog handler was walking by. I wasn't going to stop because some handlers don't like you petting their dogs but some two women stopped and asked if it was okay and the Navy girl said yes. so I got to pet Dino a bomb tech dog for a few minutes and he was great! very loving. And just getting to pet him for those few minutes put a smile on my face for the rest of the day even though it made me missmy pets it was worth it. animals have such a calming affect its truly amazing.

I hope I get to see Dino again and as small as this base is Im sure I will.

My dog is certainly loving. I know sometimes just stopping what I'm doing, and giving him a little scratching, makes him happy and soothes my soul.

Awww...glad that you got to spend a little time with an animal.

Maybe the USO should try to get Jack Hanna to do a tour with some pettable animals that are native to the bases...

Then again, I've also seen Hanna lose control of animals on Letterman. Hmm...maybe that's not such a great idea.

Dogs have that calming effect on most people....cats too to some extent.
Even though that dog is a working animal.....he got the attention and you got your BP lowered....medical fact!

We have a huge dog. A bull mastiff. She's about 2 years old but still is as hyper as a puppy (which is not fun due to her size). My husband used to take her to the assisted living home when his father was alive. As hyper as she normally was she was extremely calm and sensitive to the elderly there. They all loved her and although some were intimidated at first by her size they realized quickly how gentle she was with them. Its as if she could tell she needed to be calm there. Sometimes she would just lay her head on someones lap while they were in the wheelchair or on the bed next to them.

Losing a pet is a tough experience. We've all been there...and I like to think Rainbow Bridge will have lots of our dogs/pets waiting for all of us when our time comes.
