Repairman Jak? - RootsReggae - 02-02-2013 I was checking out some of the films coming out this year based on books. I saw Oblivion by Arvid Nelson and went to goodreads to find out more. Here is the description? In a future where the Earth’s surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows. The name is rather suspicions. Paying homage, or ripping off, or what? Repairman Jak? - IanSF - 02-02-2013 I suppose it is inevitable, given the laws of possibilities, that there will be a story that has a character named 'Jak' (or Jack as it is in the book) and that he will be a repairman of whatever, be it household appliances or 'surface drones'. (Once again a departure from the book, where he is a scavenger). I don't think it is a coincidence (when it comes to RJ, there aren't any ) and I'm pushing for a rip-off, given the changes from the source material. |
