A question on ebooks.. - vain_c - 09-06-2012

Hiya! So, i've just gotten my ipad and was hoping to get all the RJ and AC novels into it for reading. But when i browse the site i only find them in certain formats (kindle, nook, sony, etc). So is there a way or anywhere i can get relevant formats (i believe for ipads it should be epub) to satisfy my desire of collecting them all? Wink

I would go with the Amazon kindle files - FPW made sure they're copy-protection free.
So you install Kindle for iPad and read it there.
If you're feeling adventurous you can convert those kindle files to epub and import them to iTunes, then they'll be readable in iBooks.
I like to have things in one spot, and I like the way I can manually add books to iBooks via iTunes (even stuff I don't buy in the ITS) so I'm sticking with iBooks and use Calibre to convert from any format to epub.
It's a bit of a hassle, but I prefer it to starting up numerous reading programs and searching for my books.

hey! so i've tried to use calibre and buying from amazon. the problem is when i try to make the purchase, it says it'll deliver to kindle's cloud reader.

the question is now how do i get the book from the cloud reader, into calibre and into my ipad?

I'm not familiar with Calibre, but if you open the Kindle app on your iPad you can see the books you've purchased and download them to your tablet.

I know when I buy from Amazon it says to "Deliver to:" and it has a pulldown with the choices. If I order from my computer it defaults to my Kindle. If I buy through my phone it defaults to my Android; but I change this to my Kindle. If you go to your account on Amazon to "Manager your Kindle" you can look up what you've bought and by clicking the button on the right that says "Actions" you have a few choices there and you can have it delivered to whichever you want.

Are you in the US? If so the Kindle app is still in the App Store.

They just released a new version a few days ago so I don't know how you got that "apple took down" info.
And normally it's the publisher pulling their software not Apple doing the taking down, unless it's offensive like "porn" (read: there might be boobies in it) or dangerous (read: you can search for boobies) Smile
Apple is rather weird when it comes to boobs.

Install Kindle Reader on your desktop, then download your book to there. I think you do that on amazon.com and say "deliver to".
THEN you need to figure out where these books are physcally located on your hard drive. They usually have unreadable names like "B005M3M80A_EBOK.azw", on my Mac there is a folder called "my kindle content".

You can then take these AZW books and import to Calibre, then convert to epub and either manually drag those epubs into iTunes or connect Calibre with iTunes and tell it to publish books there.
You can then also edit the series so they show up nice in iBooks.
