The books mainly, not the movies, just curious who has read any of them, if so any favorites? I have read Casino Royale(badass), Live and Let Die(also cool), and the short stories(most good), am on Moonraker now. I can see why its such a popular character, though I would argue Craig's(I know, sacrilege) is the closest portrayal to date. Anyway, if you like the movies and genre of fiction, I would recommend them.

I have read Carte Blanch the one that Jeffrey Deaver wrote but I've never read any by Ian Fleming.

I read several of the Flemming novels and it never seemed like the movies got him quite right as they did with Daniel Craig. The character is a little...unlikeable in the books, sort of a wild card. He doesn't toss out one-liners and wink-wink-nudge-nudge sexual innuendo.

I don't remember much about the writing style though or the stories for that matter. I know I read Casino Royale and Dr. No, but I can't recall if I read any others. Been a while.

I agree about the movies, Dalton almost had him right, but not quite. He is defintely not the most sympathetic of characters, also very much a product of his and Flemings times. I don't know though, I kind of find it refreshing to read a character like that, something about the dickish anti-hero, similar to Stark's Parker series.

The writing style is pretty much hard-boiled, efficient and to the point.

As to Medusa's comment, I am only reading the Fleming ones now, not sure how I feel about reading someone elses take on such a personal character.
