Yeniceri origins question. - KRW - 09-04-2011 Was reading up on the Ottoman empire and read a word that piqued my interest. "Janissary". The sentence that piqued my interest is "The Ottomans were known to capture foreign children and turn them into warrior slaves known as Janissaries". Biggest question I have... Is this the origin of the Yeniceri? (at least the word) And, has this been discussed already?
