The River-ABC - Tony H - 07-27-2011 Has potential, but could also be a disaster. I don't know how they will continue this storyline for many seasons unless it becomes steeped in lore like LOST did. Still, as far as horror on television goes, this looks promising. Will cross my fingers and toes and hope it lives up to that. The River-ABC - Lisa - 07-28-2011 Hmm, I think horror, especially an ongoing storyline, is hard to do in a TV format. Shows like X-Files and Friday the 13th: The Series that have been successful in this genre have been episodic in nature. I hope it's good, though, just having trouble imagining how they'll pull it off for more than a few episodes. The River-ABC - Tony H - 07-28-2011 Exactly. I mean TWIN PEAKS was horror, I consider it as much, and as great as the show was, they couldn't drag the mystery out any longer then they did and once the answer was out there people stopped caring. Episodic is the way to go, a self contained story in each episode. The River-ABC - Lisa - 07-28-2011 I agree Twin Peaks could be classified as horror, but it also had a very strong mystery element to it and that was what made it work. This show looks like it could have that element as well, but it also looks like they're throwing "creatures" into the mix, which, I don't know... successful creature horror is generally successful due to the tension built up around NOT SEEING the creature or making it so damn scary that you are praying not to see it, LOL. I worry that this series will burn out after the eighth "attack." The River-ABC - Maggers - 07-29-2011 I'll tune in, for sure. But I do agree with Lisa and Tony about the sustainability on the level of pure horror. There will be a lot of 'splaining to do in a series like this, and I imagine that will fill up a lot of time in the episodes. I always have hope, though, until it's dashed on the rocks or drowned in ... The River.:becky: The River-ABC - Marc - 07-29-2011 I'll give it a chance, but I didn't like Harper's Island nor did I like Happy Town or whatever it was called. My expectations are low on this one. |
