Reading The Select now - rjack_fan - 07-27-2011 And we are still having the exact same debates about healthcare the characters are having in the book. I read a line that said something like by 2011 healthcare could be completely different, but here we are in 2011 and it is not. Still got to figure out how to handle the Boomers. Still got to figure out the access issue. Still got to figure out what role the government should play. Feels like nothing has changed in these issues since the book came out. Very frustrating. Reading The Select now - Tony H - 07-27-2011 I absolutely LOVE the select. I have to admit, when I purchased it when it first came out, it sounded like it should be part of the Adversary Cycle. It is still one of the best medical thrillers I have ever read, and I have read quite a few. I was surprised to read about the marketing debacle that went along with the release of the book. Between publishing company shake ups and total lack of advertising it sort of slipped under which is a shame because it could have easily landed on the NYT Bestseller List. I don't know if this should be a political discussion or a FPW book discussion. LOL Reading The Select now - rjack_fan - 07-27-2011 I'm not really interested in discussing the healthcare reform stuff, other than how the content is still relevant. I get too much of that in my work life. If the thread moves that way, i'd be happy to move it. I'm looking forward to finishing the book. I'd be willing to bet there is a sinister side to the foundation to be revealed. And to Paul: I hope you packed your crystal ball when you moved. The books that seem to perfectly predict the future are very creepy, even long after they are written. An Enemy of the State almost had me running out to buy gold! Reading The Select now - Tony H - 07-27-2011 Yes, the content is still relevant! If you look at "The Touch", there are a lot of issues raised in there with regard to the way Insurance Companies are making it difficult for doctors to actually treat people. I am guessing that Paul being a doctor makes it easier for him to write about the state of the medical industry. Reading The Select now - Scott Miller - 07-27-2011 Implant was also full of horrific health care stories including one of the more heartbreaking moments FPW ever wrote. And a sinsiter side to the Foundation-come on, they are completely on the up and up. Yes, Implant was another great med-thriller and at the heart of it the villain, while an antagonist, wasn't entirely despicable. Reading The Select now - RootsReggae - 07-27-2011 I just read The Select 2 weeks ago. That part about 2011 was scary. It's probably the best book he's written that's not a part of the secret history. I got something else I want to say so let me know when you finish the book. But then again given the stakes... Reading The Select now - Aprilis - 07-27-2011 The Select reminded me of that movie Coma ...
