If you had to pick - The Mad American - 07-21-2011

If you had to choose one of the F. Paul Wilson series which one would you choose and why? (We are lucky we don't have to, but if you did have to choose just one)

For me it would be The Adversary Cycle. And it may surprise some, I wouldn't find it that hard to choose. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the RJ series and the LaNague seris (both with associated works). I am first and foremost a fan of horror fiction and the Adversary Cycle is what brought me to be the complete FPW geek that I am so that is why my choice would be easy.

Anyone else?

I went for Other Works. Don't get me wrong - I love the Repairman Jack series, but sometimes I just long for a one-off novel that's unrelated to anything else. Think about some of those one-offs: Midnight Mass, Black Wind*, Sims. Great stuff.

* Yeah, I know Black Wind has been linked to Repairman Jack and the Adversary Cycle recently, but it was a one off when it came out - and I read it then, so it still kinda seems like a one-off to me.

RJ for me. It's all about Jack and the Otherness.....does it for me.

The Adversary Cycle is what got me. I am still in complete awe of the epic storytelling that takes place within those books. There were several times that I actually yelled out when a bad guy got it or when good triumphed. Not many books evoke that type of response from me. So The AC all the way for me.

LaNague all the way, baby.

With apologies to the bible, The AC is the greatest story ever told for the reasons you both so eloquently stated.

I am waiting for the reissue of Reprisal and Nightword before reading them, so I feel like I should reserve my vote until I have read them. Haven't found a single book I don't like yet, and that says a lot.

That's a tough one. The Adversary Cycle is what got me into Paul's work, but I am a huge sci-fi buff. I guess I'm going to have to go with AC though...

My little rebel heart is going with LaNague for its timelessness.

I went for the Adversary Cycle but it's a very hard choice. In fact really you could make a good case for saying the RJ books should be lumped in with the Adversary Cycle. The timeline is the same just geographically disconnected.
