True Grit - The Mad American - 11-30-2010 Anyone seen the previews for this remake? I am pretty excited for it even though I am a big fan of the original with John Wayne I think Bridges, Damon and Brolin starring in it along with the Coen brothers being in control can't be a bad thing. http://www.truegritmovie.com/?gclid=CMXt0aq4yaUCFRiAgwodlWquaA True Grit - Brian - 11-30-2010 I saw a clip the other night, it looks interesting. I had reservations about this one until I saw several trailers. I love Bridges, but he just din't seem to have enough "sand" to play Rooster Cogburn. After seing several trailers and tv spots, I think he is perfect. True Grit - The Mad American - 11-30-2010 t4terrific Wrote:The John Wayne version is one of my favorite films (Sorry Ken. ). I had almost the same worries when I heard Bridges would play Rooster, but after seeing the previews I think he looks to be a very good fit. The Coen brothers to me always have amazing characters and dialogue in their stuff so I am pretty stoked to see how this plays out. And yeah the John Wayne version is up there as one of my favorite westerns of all time. True Grit - KRW - 11-30-2010 t4terrific Wrote:The John Wayne version is one of my favorite films (Sorry Ken. ). It looks like they're staying pretty true to the original, except for the girl being kidnapped. That should bring another level of angst into the movie. We'll see. I doubt we'll have to hope much about Jeff Bridges portrayal of Rooster, but I'm with you hoping the rest of the movie doesn't suck dirty water. Hmmm. I just realized I haven't been to the theaters in over a year, and now I'm contemplating going to see a remake. There's something wrong with that! True Grit - t4terrific - 11-30-2010 Supposedly, the Coen Grit is based solely on the book. The dialog is taken from the book as well. I don't know if that will help or hurt. Maddy Ross was okay in John Wayne Grit. I thought Glen Campbell ABSOLUTELY SUCKED though. I mostly liked the Rooster Cogburn character and his lines. Bridges seems to have captured the character of Rooster. True Grit - ccosborne3 - 11-30-2010 I read somewhere they are disregarding the film entirely and basing the new film on the book the original film was based on. Even if it follows the same narrative all the shots should be completely different. I never saw True Grit but will buy it after the new film comes out. Robert Duvall plays Ned Pepper believe it or not. |
