Am enjoying reading FPWs account of raising triffids on Twitter. Quite amusing.

Hope he doesn't get busted for raising the buggers; according to the man himself it's illegal where he lives -- wonder if that's because he doesn't have the proper permits or whether NJ is oppressing the Right to Bear Carnivorous Plants (hey, it's in the constitution somewhere, right).... ^_^

Probably the latter. They dont let you do anything fun in New Jersey, like pumping gas.

Here's FPW's Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/fpaulwilson

As for what are Triffids: they are fictional carnivorous plants featured in British novelist John Wyndham's story Day of the Triffids (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_of_the_Triffids). It's a classic sci-fi novel made into a movie in the 50s. Wyndham also wrote The Midwich Cuckoos (movie titled: Village of the Damned).

I think I was most amused that FPW just pulled this out of nowhere. Lotsa fun!

Seriously Paul, we all know you don't have enough time to write, let alone cut your grass. Just hire some local kid to do it for you. Don't let the triffids overrun you.

And no, I don't think it's a good idea to ask for a flame-thrower for your birthday. Big Grin

A flame thrower would not be the best tool, but since he lives near the Sea he should be okay....

Triffids is . . . are . . . am? . . . more than one Triffid. Big Grin

A Triffid is a venomous plant capable of animal-like behavior. It feeds on rotting meat, and is able to uproot itself and move around.

It comes from the post apocalyptic novel -- The Day of the Triffids -- written by English novelist John Wyndham in 1951.

In 1962, there was a movie made from the book, it starred Howard Keel.
