Splinter - Scott Miller - 04-19-2009

I've been on a roll with the low budget horror of late and Splinter is the best of the bunch. It features one of the most original monsters I've seen in quite some time and is a smart, fast-paced thriller.

**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

Watched this Thursday night. I thought the acting was very good especially Shea Wigham. I can't say much for the fx since it was low budget but it reminded me of The Thing and in certain scenes the Evil Dead. And the creatures origins reminded me of an episode from the X-Files, so I wasn't struck by originality. Still, it wasn't a bad flick at all. It had it's moments, namely the cinder block scene in the cooler.

Since you and I seem to share the same interest, I've seen a few trailers that look promising:

R-Point
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
Penny Dreadful
And give this one a try when you're out of other options... Death of a Ghost Hunter. I've seen it already but I'd like to hear your opinion.

Any movie suggestions for me??

I've seen and enjoyed Penny Dreadful-it's part of the After Dark Horror series that have generally been OK, but not great in my opinion-at least the one's I've watched.

I have almost rented Death of a Ghost Hunter on a couple of occasions for mine and Caleb's movie night because he is a huge fan of Ghost Hunters, so I'll definitely give it a whirl now.

As for recommendations I generally post about anything I like here so you could look through my posts if you want. Off the top of my head some worth seeing are Alien Raiders, Midnight Movie and Shallow Ground.

I heard about this one on the radio the other morning. After hearing them gush about it and a good recommendation from you, (don't get a big head, we both seem to like the same crapBig Grin) I may just check it out this weekend.
