Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D - Tony H - 11-06-2008

I bought the 3-D Blue Ray version of this film and watched it last night. The 3-D glasses are the old fashioned anaglyph type and I am sure the digital version in theaters was crisp and clean.

The DVD version was a little muddy because of the glasses but surprisingly in HD on a wide LCD projection screen the 3-D popped very well. There was surprising depth and plenty of "off the screen" images.

The movie itself was just average, over the top family fun that begs to be watched with complete disregard for physics which is in stark contrast to the scientific nature of the dialogue and the main characters scientific profession.

I am sure without the amazing 3D effects this film would have been a waste of money.

It amazes me how awesome 3D is now on a television, something that was not possible in the past. I remember watching 3D films on TV when I was a kid: The Mask, Gorilla at Large, Hondo and several special episodes of network programs broadcast in 3D during sweeps. They never captured the full screen pop and depth that the movie screens could.

With the advent of high technologhy such as Hi-Def TVs and Blue ray players the bridge has finally beend gapped.

I look forward to more 3D DVDs!
