Obama vs. Rasalom *speculation) - johntfs - 10-05-2008 I'm wondering how closely the RJ novels with hew to the "real world" with respect to the upcoming election. Many polls seem to indcate a probable Obama victory in November (especially the projection at fivethirtyeight.com). Assuming he does get elected, an Obama presidency would tend to herald a rise of American prestige abroad and a foreign policy based around unity between America's allies and strong diplomatic engagement with other nations as well as increased cooperation in attack global terror networks. Not to mention Obama's constant mantra of Hope. The overall result of all this would tend to be a reduction in fear, hatred and violence - and thus a poisoning of the feast that the Otherness planned to have on our world. Therefore, one would expect that Rasalom and various agents of the Otherness would make moves designed to thwart a President who plans to spoil their "dinner." And one wonders if Jack might become involved in spoiling Rasalom's plans. That said, a plot involving a possible Presidential assassination seems a little too involved and public for Jack, who prefers to shun officialdom like the plague. On the other hand, Obama himself began his political career as a local community organizer. Perhaps there's someone in Jack's New York like that... It seemed pretty simple and straightforward to me. The Otherness feeds on fear, despair and other negative emotions. There's a popular leader whose policies and charisma will reduce negative emotions (and, thus, the Otherness' food supply). So, the Otherness'll want him removed. And then Jack gets involved to stop that removal. Obama vs. Rasalom *speculation) - Bluesman Mike Lindner - 10-05-2008 johntfs Wrote:What about that post did you fail to understand? I read the post in "question" twice, trying to figure out how Obama Hussein is an anagram for Rasalom Hussein. No offense to the poster, but mixing politics and fiction confuses this old poster. AC P.S. Hey, what if Obomba is the Anti-Christ? But, then, what would that make McCain? I too have written things that I believed were easily understandable . . . only to find that some others didn't understand what I was saying. Quote:The Otherness feeds on fear, despair and other negative emotions.Okay. Quote: There's a popular leader whose policies and charisma will reduce negative emotions (and, thus, the Otherness' food supply).Ah! Now I get it. This is nothing more than a political endorsement for a candidate who -- in reality -- knows absolutely nothing about how the real works, and therefore will only make the situation worse. NEWS FLASH! Obama thinks that Washington D.C. is the real world. Quote: So, the Otherness'll want him removed. Everything Obama stands for is the precise opposite of what RJ stands for, and Obama would be one of the great allies of the Otherness. Ken V. Actually, no, it's the very barest bones of a plot concept. The leader in question needn't be Obama (and it'd be best if it weren't, for much the same reason that it'd be stupid to have Jack track down Osama bin Laden). Hell, the leader could easily be a Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Libertarian, Green, any party one desires. The point is the he (or she) is someone who's "poisoning" the Otherness' food supply and is thus targeted for death or corruption. And Jack has to stop it from happening. A simple, fun set-up that puts RJ in an unfamiliar, dangerous milieu (a political campaign) where he has to deal with the Otherness crap and avoid the media spotlight. As to the actual political stuff, I look at the last couple of weeks. When major crap went down, Obama kept his cool, urged other people to keep calm, worked from a distance and got stuff done. McCain flew apart like a Schizophrenic who'd swallowed C-4. He changed position almost daily, pulled stunts like "suspending his campaign" and "forgoing" the debate. Went to the debate anyway, claimed credit for passing the bill that failed in the House, and finally sat down and shut up long enough to get an earmark-choked version of the first bill through the House and Senate. Bottom line, in a crisis, Obama kept his head while McCain lost his. Quote:The point is the he (or she) is someone who's "poisoning" the Otherness' food supply and is thus targeted for death or corruption.Right. As though some political hack can do anything to thwart the aims of the Otherness. Quote:And Jack has to stop it from happening. Quote:As to the actual political stuff, I look at the last couple of weeks. When major crap went down, Obama kept his cool, urged other people to keep calm, worked from a distance and got stuff done.Yeah. Like voting to bail out the banking industry with your tax dollars? What else did he "get done?" And what will be the results of what he did . . . good or bad? And you're just confirming what I already said. This is mostly a campaign commercial for Obama. To me, they're BOTH Fascist rat bags, and electing either of them will prove to be a disaster. Quote:Bottom line, in a crisis, Obama kept his head while McCain lost his.And as far as McCain's behavior is concerned; I'll say it again: I wouldn't be surprised if -- in fact I'm beginning to believe that -- he's in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. I think of Obama as the Sentaor from Cloud coo-coo land, and McCain as the Senator from Hanoi. Ken V. Obama vs. Rasalom *speculation) - mad4tunes - 10-06-2008 I, for one, would need to have a frontal lobotomy before I'd vote for Barack Obama. He's anathema to me and my political beliefs. I also think that Senator Obama would provide a FEAST for the Otherness, as he would dish out a lot of false hope that would be crushed without mercy by the rest of the world, because the rest of the world knows softness when it sees it, and would act accordingly. There are times when talking is the answer, and times when it is not. When it comes to radical Islam, it's not time to talk. All the moderate mullahs in the world (and there are a lot of them out there, I have no doubt) won't stop Hezbollah or Al Qaeda, and no amount of talking will deter them. Would you talk to the cockroaches in your kitchen or (maybe a better analogy) a pack of feral dogs in your neighborhood to try to get them to leave? I think not. Obama vs. Rasalom *speculation) - Alvin Fox - 10-06-2008 Maybe I'm pessimistic but I hold serious doubts that there's a person, group, religion, whatever that can cause such speculative global happiness. |
