Tropic Thunder - Dave - 06-06-2008 This film looks hilarious, directed and starring Ben Stiller, also starring Robert Downey Jr and Jack Black. Check out the red band trailer on YouTube to see what it will be like. The MTV Movie Awards did a sketch about viral marketing the film. It had me laughing so hard by the end. Check it out DAve Tropic Thunder - GeraldRice - 06-06-2008 I saw that. RDJ has a pretty good sense of humor about himself. And Ben Stiller has a mean-streak he has yet to truly unleash. Tropic Thunder - Maggers - 08-14-2008 Saw TROPIC THUNDER today. I have one word....HILARIOUS! OMG I haven't laughed that hard and that often since I don't know when. I saw it with a diverse group of friends in a packed Times Square theater, and we, along with the rest of the audience, went wild. There was even applause at the end. I loved this movie. I'm watiching a commercial for it and it makes me want to run out and see it again right now. You will enjoy this movie, I guarantee it. There were few laughs, most of which you've already seen on the trailer (but unfunny in the context of the movie). The audience booed. I booed. To compensate I watched Pineapple Express today. Boooo! After watching Step Brothers last week and laughing my ass off, I think I've been spoiled. You can make up your own minds about TT and PE; I say: Wait for the dvds and go see SB. Tropic Thunder - Al-Dog - 08-14-2008 I’m in agreement with Maggers on this one. I saw Tropic Thunder at an advanced screening last week and I thought it was the funniest movie I’ve seen in a while. One of the local TV talking heads who reviews movies said that his wife kept elbowing him because he was laughing so loud and hard that she couldn't hear the next lines. That was true for us, too, especially with Robert Downey, Jr., who has some terrific lines. He is soft spoken here and was at times hard to hear over all the howls of laughter. Tropic Thunder - saynomore - 08-15-2008 Thumb up for Tropic Thunder Thumbs down for Pineapple Express Thumbs up for Step Brothers AC P.S. SPOILERS: Tropic Thunder steered off track when the director was "really" killed. What was supposed to be a comedy about some "spoiled" actors thinking they're making a real movie when they are actually in the middle of some revolution didn't make it to the screen. Ben Stiller's character is the only one who still thinks he's making a movie. The others are trying to rescue him. The confusion between pathos and bathos drags the humor down at times, but not enough so to prevent the comedy from coming through. But did we really need the fart jokes? And who didn't know that was Tom Cruise? Agent humor? Producer humor? Hollywood film-making parody? Who knows? But it made me laugh enough times to merit a ten buck matinee price. Oh, yeah, I went alone because my brother and Cindy did not want to see this movie based on the trailer. And the audience I saw it with didn't boo, but many left early. So there weren't really enough people laughing out loud for me not to hear all the lines. And, at least, Nick Nolte found some work, if you could call his role that. Fake hooks? LMFAO! RDJ and Jack Black had stellar performances. I'll also give kudos to Nick Nolte, Tom Cruise, and Mathew McKannaugy. Ben Stiller played his part and generated some laughs, but I was surprised to see that he had directed it. I thought he did a good job. (at least he had the 4 million dollar explosion on film) I never caught the names of the other two guys in the platoon, but I'll tip my hat to their performances. Had to be hell acting with so many stars. Tropic Thunder - bones weep tedium - 09-01-2008 I am pleased that this film is getting such a warm response, becasue Sorrel and I were afraid that once the gimmick of a blacked-up Robert Downey Jr had worn off this film wouldn't have much left to offer. The trailers don't really show any good laughs, mainly focussing on RDJ. I defintiely want to see this film though! Personally, I think Jack Black stole the show when they tied him to a tree. Lord I hope that doesn't go down as cinematic history, but it just might! |
