John Adams HBO - ccosborne3 - 03-30-2008 Anybody watching the John Adams mini-series? I'm really liking it (see how easy it is to come up with an alternative to enjoying it immensely). JA is a little stodgy for me but I get a kick out of Ben Franklin. Quite the character. Amazing how much American History I've forgotten over the years. Might have to pick up a book and brush up a little. John Adams HBO - Bluesman Mike Lindner - 03-30-2008 ccosborne3 Wrote:Anybody watching the John Adams mini-series? Can't hurt, ccosborne. Our country's early history is mighty. Was just talkin' about that last week in a taproom with a fella, town called Swamp Fox, the state of Franklin... John Adams HBO - RichE - 03-31-2008 Wish I had HBO. Oh well, wait for BLOCKBUSTER! John Adams HBO - Schwinn160 - 03-31-2008 I hear it's very good, but I haven't seen it yet. I'll be waiting! I have a friend who loves it so much she watches each episode multiple times. I'm not that fascinated with it, but it surely is entertaining and absolutely worth watching. John Adams HBO - DogWoman - 03-31-2008 I've been watching it. It is excellent and Paul Giamatti is wonderful. I love Laura Linney as Abigail also. Abigail was one hell of a woman. Franklin is funny, but he comes off as quite a jerk, IMO. He's all about the clever phrases and not much else. He was particularly annoying in the scenes in France. The one thing I wish they'd captured better is the philosophy of the Enlightenment. But it's a great series nonetheless. His scientific works were the first clue the Europeans had that the people of the New World were creating a civilization. Oh, I agree that the real Franklin was a good guy....the series just portrays him as annoying. John Adams HBO - DogWoman - 03-31-2008 I think they're doing a compare and contrast with his and John Adams's characters. John is very serious and driven and Ben's more laid back. I think they're just emphasizing the difference. |
