Who should direct "Repairman Jack I: Claws of the Rakoshi"? - Wapitikev - 03-19-2008 I have been lurking for a number of weeks, waiting for my account to be approved…may the Otherness-spawned minions of Rasalom, responsible for spamming this site with junk account applications, all be terminated with extreme prejudice by the Yenicari. Ahem. Don't worry, the lithium's starting to kick in. While I lurked, I had some time to drill through the RJ Movie threads…some very interesting facts and speculation there. I have an interesting bit of "coincidence" regarding a possible Director. A brief summary: Beacon Communications is the production company, Ryan Reynolds is cast as Jack, and Chris Morgan wrote the most recent version of the script…but no Director, yet...and FPW has been eerily silent since December on his RJ Movie News Blog, so… …release the hounds! Chris Morgan looks to have some interesting writing credits: Cellular, Tokyo Drift, Wanted (Summer 2008 release), Fast and Furious 4 (filming) and, of course, Rakoshi. "Wanted", Chris' next movie, is a bullet-time action extravagonzo starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, etc. On the Director front, my top choice was Guillermo Del Toro; and then he signed on for the Hobbit until 2010. After that he is scheduled to direct and produce his own screenplay of HPL’s ATMOM…so he’s no longer an option for Jack 1; maybe Jack 2 or 3 (he did Blade 2, after all). Another of my favourite horror/action directors is Timor Bekmambetov, whose movies Nightwatch, Daywatch, and Twilightwatch (in production) are discussed in a different thread. What I did not realize, until a month ago, was that Bekmambetov ALSO directed Wanted! So, a screenplay by the writer who also adapted "Rakoshi" has already been directed by one of the hottest horror/action directors on the planet! When it comes to Jack, there are no more coincidences, but what about Jack’s movie? Dare we hope that this unexpected convergence is foreshadowing for good things to come? Who’s your favourite choice for Director of the first “Jack” movie (Rakoshi)? -Wapitikev PS-Please forgive the newbie for the horrible B-movie title of this thread...it is an homage to Jack's love of old, sometimes cheesily-titled monster movies. Give me the cast, crew, script and other equipment and I'll direct the thing myself. Consider it done!!!!! Who should direct "Repairman Jack I: Claws of the Rakoshi"? - GeraldRice - 03-19-2008 I used to like Tony Scott. But he's impossible to watch now. I'll give you a name and if you consider only his earlier work you might say no. But if you look at his more recent stuff you might think he could pull it off. Spike Lee- Do The Right Thing, School Daze, Jungle Fever are all easily forgettable, but Inside Man was a great mix of action and drama. I think he was only a producer but Clockers was pretty good as well. So long as you don't let him go on too long in the end I think he'd be pretty capable. Clark Johnson- who knew the detective from Homicide: Life on the Street was a pretty good director? He did SWAT and something else I can't remember offhand. Antoine Fuqua- Arthur, Training Day and a few others, he's probably more qualified than the other two because he has experience with CG. Katherine Bigelow- Strange Days was awesome. Just don't let her get too mushy. Luc Besson- I would say he's the most qualified and the most difficult to get. I don't think he's directed a movie in some years, but CG and action blends seemlessly together. If you've been lurking for awhile you probably know by now that the lithium is optional.. I just hope that what ever director they get is capable of giving this film the horror feel it deserves. It is NOT just an action movie, and I think a movie that walks the line could be amazing. You know, instead of people running from the baddy we finally get a hero to fight the terror. I am just worried that a director will get a hold of this and only see an action blockbuster, which the books clearly are not! Oh, and ImDeranged....I love your Cerebus avatar! He's working on a movie "Rendezvous with Rama" ---based on a story by Arthur C. Clark (R.I.P.) admit it you got excited for a moment. But it's probably just a coincidenceI loved "Rendezvous with Rama" and the whole Rama series. I didn't know they were making a movie of it. Thanks for the update, LD. Thanks for the update, LD.I'd like Marc Forster to do it. He loves to mix up his body of work (Finding Neverland, Stranger Than Fiction), respects the material (Kite Runner) and after Quantum of Solace (Bond 22) will have the chops for big action. Him or Sam Raimi ;o). Dave PS please, not the Russian dude, Daywatch was unwatchable and Wanted looks a confusing mess. He'd have Jack running on the ceiling away from the Rakoshi. Who should direct "Repairman Jack I: Claws of the Rakoshi"? - Scott Miller - 03-19-2008 Marc Buhmann of course. He has a feel for horror, dark humor and is quite familiar with the source material. If not Marc, then I still think Alex Proyas is a good choice; he can combine the gritty elements from The Crow with the gloss of I, Robot to create an ideal playground for Jack to wreak mayhem in. Now I'll have to go check his stuff out...but I agree Proyas would be a great choice (I loved Dark City). One question, though, why doesn't he direct more stuff? -Wapitikev |
