Juno - Maggers - 12-29-2007 Well....I wanted to love JUNO, given the press it's been getting and the preliminary award nominations. But I didn't. It was OK, made tolerable for me by the superb supporting cast. The heroine was annoyingly spunky, bright, and quick witted, thanks to the script. I wasn't drawn in to the film as I should have been because, despite what should have been inherently likable qualities in the lead character, I just couldn't get behind Juno, herself. Ellen Page did a credible job as Juno McGuff, but the character as written by Diablo Cody was just too cloyingly smart/cute for me. It's a nice little movie. The audience clapped mildly at the close of the film. I nearly fell asleep a few times. It was decidely a mixed bag for me, but I have the feeling that a young audience will love it. I may be one of the few people in America not bowled over by JUNO. But because the film has played well in my mind since then, I'll give JUNO a second look. I have the feeling it will be one of those movies that I'll enjoy more on the small screen. I was lazy about looking for a thread about JUNO. After a few pages, I assumed there was no review so I started one. Oopsy! My brother and I were the only non-teenagers in the crowd, and the crowd of teens had most of the lines memorized, probably having seen it more than once or twice. My brother agrees with your assessment, but I liked the dialogue in JUNO, even though 16 year olds don't talk like that. But it made me laugh. Some of the best teen movies (Superbad, Ghost World, Art School Confidential) have teens who don't speak like teens. And I had to convince my brother to go see this movie with me by telling him it wasn't a teen movie. Though he complained, he, too, laughed throughout the movie. That's enough of a recommendation for me. I tire of the flatulence-laden comedies that pass for teen movies these days. JUNO took the high road, methinks. AC Juno - jacobm - 01-21-2008 I liked Ellen Page's character, but found her dialogue way out of line for a 16 year old. It was too clever and witty. I liked Michael Cera's character even more, which doesn't surprise me since he was the best part of SUPERBAD. The best thing about JUNO was her father. Every movie he is in (I confess his name slips my mind) he does a fantastic job. Juno - Maggers - 01-21-2008 jacobm Wrote:...The best thing about JUNO was her father. He was SUCH an awful man in "OZ," on HBO, and he's also played the shrink on "LAW AND ORDER." He's fabulous in everything he does. Love, love, love him. Juno - jacobm - 01-23-2008 j.k. simmons, thanks Maggers! Juno - Libby - 12-20-2008 I loved this movie. I loved the acting, and the adoptive parents were very well done. One of the problems people seem to have had with movie was that Juno didn't sound like a 16 year old. How so? Juno - cobalt - 12-20-2008 Some teens are very well spoken. There are others however, that intersperse their conversation with a plethora of words/sounds such as, "um" and "like". After a dozen "likes" I lose all interest.
