30 Days of Night: Review with SPOILERS - outlanders - 10-21-2007

The movie was quite suspenseful, and as your Vampire movies go, I rather enjoyed it.

The premise is very simple. A small and exceptionally remote Alaskan town is getting ready for a month without the sun.

As more than three quarters of the population leave, heading to other locations, the remainder hunker down for this long, lonely time.

However, unbeknownst to them, their small town has become the target of a group of ravenous vampires, who send in a quisling in order to cut them off from any potential help and to ensure that their month of feeding will not be disturbed.

The gore wasn't that major an issue for me. Lots of blood, but it didn't really go over the top until near the end. Even then, at least it wasn't over the top like SAW or Hostil. Or is it Hostile? Eh, moot point.

I must say that the ending did take me by surprise, and it was sad, but very well done, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The movie did suffer from a few continuity flaws, and there were things about it that simply defied logic.

For example - now power, no heat. It gets frakin' cold up there! They would have froze to death long before the sun returned.

Also, at the beginning of the movie, they were on the shore, watching the sun set for the final time in 30 days. Then they were back at that same spot at the end of the movie. As far as I know, the sun rises in the east and settles in the west.

Still, other than these minor quibbles, I enjoyed the movie and recommend to others to see it.
