BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - Mike Hanson - 10-07-2007 Well I checked it out with some friends at the Ziegfeld Theatre in Manhattan last night (Saturday) and yes, this movie has still got it. For a plethora of details check out the blog at my website. No worries for the purists, though. This is not George Lucas rewriting history. I suppose the closest analogy would be when Robert Wise was allowed (in 2001) the opportunity to give Star Trek The Motion Picture the final polish it never got before it's initial release in 1979. Ridley Scott's dark sci-fi opus is an amazing vision that is more relevant than ever. And this latest and "final" cut has put an impressive polish on an underappreciated masterpiece. I give "BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut" FIVE out of five cans of diet cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper. Hope we can meet someday. On to business: Just saw the real director's cut of Blade Runner and loved it, but even though the first cut (original theater release) was rough, it still is first in my list. Just as Dawn of the Dead has several cuts out there (and I've seen them all), the original American cut is still my fav, even though the European cut is better edited. As you can tell, I'm a geek for re-cut movies (movies I like, anyway). BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - Auskar - 10-08-2007 Evidentely it is not showing in my area, unless I want to drive all the way up to Los Angeles. Damn. BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - bones weep tedium - 10-10-2007 I knew that it was going to get a 'limited' cinematic release, but I had at least hoped that my local art-house cinema would get it. I had no idea that it would only be shown in one city in the entire world. Have pre-ordered the 5-disc version from Amazon, though. Should arrive just in time for Xmas! ![]() Underappreciated, Mike? I have always felt that Bladerunner was very well thought of and is widely regarded as being very clever and influential. Because it hasnt got wide appeal to the mass audience like some other films, I rather think of that as an elitist thing than an underappreciation thing. If Bladerunner was simple enough to be appreciated by the sort of mongs that Transformers is aimed at I doubt I would enjoy it as much! :p BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - bones weep tedium - 01-25-2008 Finally got to see this tonight, and I must admit to being a little underwhelmed. I was expecting some deleted scenes to be reinserted, or something. . . This is just the Directors Cut (more or less) but it has been remastered. Whole lot of fuss over nothing if you ask me. ![]() Still, I have 4 discs of extras to plow through. That'll keep me going over the next two weeks when my dissertation makes my eyes water! BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - Kenji - 01-26-2008 I bought "Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition". I like The Final Cut version. Remasterd film was good and sound was also clear. BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - Marc - 01-26-2008 I bought it on Blu-Ray. Holy shit. Watching it in HD you are not underwhelmed at all. BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - Kenji - 01-26-2008 Marc B. BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - Marc - 01-26-2008 unless you get the PS3 I'd wait because the new profile 2.0 players come out this summer. The PS3 is upgradable to 2.0. The standalone players are not. I don't know how it is in Japan but here in the US the price is the same for the upgradable PS3 and the low end standalone players. BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut - jimbow8 - 01-26-2008 I WILL be buying this, but I've been unsure which version to buy. Is it worth the extra $30 for the 5th version of the movie (plus I don't want all the extra stuff- plastic case, etc) or is the 4-Disc edition sufficient? |
