Anyone seen this film? I've seen Seven Samurai and Rashomon but never this one. Loved it. LOVED it.

Anyone else?

Of course I saw it! And, I also saw "7 Samurai" and "Rashomon".

So did you see "Kagemusha"? It's another best Kurosawa's film. Cool

Yojimbo is one of the all time GREAT movies. It was remade as a western, A Fistful of Dollars. So in a way Yojimbo started Clint Eastwood's career, his "Man w/ No Name" is the western version of Yojimbo. It was also remade/reimagined as a depression era gangster film w/ Bruce Willis, Last Man Standing. While that one is good Yojimbo & Fistfull of $ have stood the test of time.

Toshiro Mifune has a long list of Japanese films that inspired American remake's re-imaginings. To name a few:

Hidden Fortress- The plot was used for Star Wars, George Lucas has acknowledged and given it credit.
Seven Samurai- Magnificent Seven -
Yojimbo- Fistful of Dollars
High and Low - Ransom (based on an 87th precinct novel by Ed McBain)
Zatoichi - Blind Fury
Red Sun - Shanghai Noon
Hell in the Pacific- Enemy Mine

Those are just the ones I can think of from the top of my head. All all worth seeing, especially if you've liked the remakes.
And to just to tie it into FPW's writing he's also played Adm. Isoroku Yamamoto who appears in Black Wind.

Toshiro Mifune is now legend!

By the way, Zatoichi is not Toshiro Mifune. Shintaro Katsu played Zatoichi. But recent Zatoichi(2003) was Takeshi Kitano.

I've seen and knew the connection to the Western films but I didn't know about Sanjuro. I'll look for it. Thanks!

Don't forget that Seven Samurai was also made into that classic "Battle Beyond the Stars."

Yes, I have it in VHS. Excellent film starring one of my favorite actors. It was the inspiration for both Fistful of Dollars and Last Man Standing.

"RED SUN"
'One Mosquito.....swwwiiissshhhhh.....No Mosquito!"

Yojimbo - bones weep tedium - 09-07-2007

Yojimbo was partly inspired by the Dashiel Hammet novel 'RED HARVEST'.

Miller's Crossing is another film in the 'family'.

Star Wars has a few references to Yojimbo too.

S'all good stuff.
