We just watched the ultimate independent family film last night, Always Will, and thought it was exceptionally well done. Comparisons to The Butterfly Effect are inevitable, but this film didn't go for thrills, instead it focused on how Will's(the main character) forays into the past effected those around him on a much more personal level. I thought the movie had a lot of heart and both my kids really liked it as well.
The film is quite low budget, but for a good reason-besides the lack of money I mean. Michael Sammaciccia, who wrote and directed it, returned to his hometown of Darby, PA and created Film Club. Film Club recruited any high schoolers who were interested and they formed the cast and crew.
The soundtrack is worth listening to as well. On a side note about music, I have been listening to Trout Fishing In America's live My Best Day and loving it. TFIA is an acoustic duo who have been performing kids music for 30 years, but I had never heard of them and what a shame, they are exceptional musicians who pen some truly clever songs.

I LOVE TFIA!!! They are incredible!! First hear them on "Kids Corner" WXPN's great kids program years and years ago!! Good for adults, too!
Where can one find/see this movie - sounds fascinating.

On My Best Day they've added a couple of musicians. The whole CD is fun and full of great playing. "Day Care Blues" is a great song by any standard

I checked it out at my supermarket. I assume it would be available through Netflix or other on-line sources, but I don't know.
