the Aristocrats - Scott Miller - 02-07-2007
I watched most of this documentary that uses this inside joke popular among comedians as its focal point. Apparently the joke comes out after the lights have gone down. I did get a few chuckles, but the sheer amount of depraved humor concerning incest, bodily fluids and beastiality wore me out before the end credits. My favorite bits were the comics that chose the higher road in their telling of the joke, although Carlin's version was quite funny despite it's incredibly gross nature. The mime was also pretty funny. Know what you are getting into before you watch this one.

As I said, it did provide some laughs, albeit very uncomfortable ones, but it was too much of a one-trick-pony for me.

Could have done with more Eddie Izzard

I'm all for touching the darker side of nature in storytelling ways, whether that be through a novel or a joke.
I don't believe giving voice to such thoughts in such a way is indicative of actual intent or belief.
But it does show how the mind works.

Not to mention that comedians are usually having to push the envelope to please an audience that is increasingly seeking something shocking. Perhaps it is the mirror that they are holding up to us that I found disturbing. If this is what it takes to make people laugh now, what will it be in 10, 20 years?
I agree that just because someone gives voice to their thoughts doesn't mean that they are going to or have acted upon them.

If this is what it takes to make people laugh now, what will it be in 10, 20 years?I agree that times, they are a changing, but remember this joke is not intended for a public audience, it is an in-joke within the world of comedy, so the extremes they push are not for our benefit, but for the benefit of people who create humour all day long within certain constraints.
I understand most of the participants took part with the thought that it could never see a commercial release, that is why they went all out. They were wrong
