How tough can one guy be? - law dawg - 11-22-2006

I've talked several times about what the human body is capable of under stress, and how difficult it is to use firearms in the middle of a confrontation.

Words are fine, but video does a better job. Seeing can be believing. So, I submit the following....

OMG! How awful!

Makes me glad I decided against carrying a .22 and chose a revolver instead of a pistol! Course the bad guy in that video probably would have knocked me out cold in the first 2 seconds anyway. Probably? Who am I kidding? No doubt about it.

I wonder if you'd file this under "hysterical strength," a phenomenon that's always interested me.

I didn't watch the video (because I'm having a nice day so far), but that phenomenon has always interested me as well. I saw on a show once where a middle-aged "average Joe" lifted a shelf unit weighing hundreds of pounds after it fell on his wife. Weird stuff.

Yeah. You'd think there'd be a scholarly study of the phenomenon, but I've never been able to find one. Maybe because the evidence is anecdotal, and hard-scientists tend to underrate that stuff. I can think of experiments, but God forbid they ever be tried.
